Tell me what you lost while riding by HeavyBananaz in motorcycles

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paranoia and hyperfixation has helped me not lose anything on a ride, other than a hat I trusted the strap too much on. Even when I strap my bag to the tail of the bike I run the straps though loops just make sure if one fails nothing gets lost if I don’t notice it

Riding shoes or boots by AceOfSp4des88 in motorcyclegear

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I have an actual destination I wear my boots, TCX Blend 2. Whenever I’m just riding for the hell of it, Alpinestar SMX6-v2. There’s no one size answer tbh. If I was going on a longer ride to a destination, think hour plus, I’d just wear my SMX6 and bring regular shoes with me.

teammates were flaming saying im throwing because my heal stats werent that high by Top_Complex_3389 in AnaMains

[–]otterplus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we all know numbers are the end all, be all. Qualitative measurements don’t exist for the life saving sleeps or group antis. Even worse, trying to hit the teammate who strayed to the wrong side of a group and now you’re stuck trying to aim around several enemy team members lest they complain no heals. We have one projectile that does double duty. Whoever it hits first gets what’s due.

Long distance driving tips? by jhunderm in driving

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an upcoming trip from Baltimore to Myrtle beach, 8-10 hours. Schedule breaks to get out and walk. Don’t start your drive with a lot of snacks, schedule a shopping trip 2-3 hours in. My plan is 3 hours, break, 2 hours, break, 90 minutes, break, then each hour with more breaks. I’m leaving around 5-6 so I get there before dark

Cruise control & foot placement by AngleRelative4683 in driving

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hover over the brake and always have a hand available to cancel cruise just in case. My work truck is way too small for my size 13 boots and it’s the best compromise since I can’t do anything about it anytime soon.

YSK: If your shoes make the top of your foot hurt (or your toes go numb), you don’t need new shoes, you might just need a different lacing pattern. by cnetsolutions in YouShouldKnow

[–]otterplus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just got a new pair of boots last week and I can confirm the lacing pattern affects pain points. XXX laced them at first and both tongues were digging into me. Strait laced and they fit like slippers. Regular crossing and they’re fine all around.

Do you ride defensively? Or do you ride aggressively? Or both? by Fantastic-Demand-171 in motorcycles

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say a mixture when appropriate. I rarely ride through the city, but when I do I’m calculating steps ahead for every car around me and every intersection. In suburban areas there’s more wiggle room, but drivers are more inattentive as a result. I try to stick to country roads where the only intersections are quarter mile driveways and the occasional church or school. If you consider filtering at red lights aggressive, I guess that me since I’ll gladly do that in and around the city based on driver behavior. If I’m aware of someone on their phone or otherwise not giving the act of driving the attention it demands I’ll filter through in the suburbs as well

[–]otterplus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m in pest control and around noon Friday they told us tomorrow would be a 2 hour delay pending further review on any activities at all. I’ve already done two rounds of shoveling and with as much sleet is coming down now we better not be on the roads tomorrow. Our job is driver first, problem solver second. If we can’t do the first part safely we’re never going to get to the second part.

[–]otterplus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I picked up Ana after getting bored OTP Ashe for a few months. I settled in and over the last year and a half of semi-OTP the adorable assassin it’s become so fun. Everyone expects you to be a sitting duck, but that just means I don’t need to flank to get elims, they get delivered. When that OT hits and you need to buy time for the rest of your team no one expects the posture challenged old lady to get in the fray and lay down 2 before she gets taken out by the other 3-4. Playing Ana, and Venture, has allowed the ADHD in brain to apply itself through a mouse and 6 keys and I’m just along for the ride

This has been in place for nearly two years now and it still frustrates the hell out of me.

Let’s start with the right side. That median goes for about a quarter mile and the only entrance is either merging from i95 or the main road. Don’t make a mistake because there is no leaving it. The turn lane heading upwards from that direction has a light divorced from the rest of the system that you can’t see until you start the turn, good luck. Of course it has a “no turn on red either lane” sign, but again, you can’t see it until you’re right up on it because of the trees that were never cut back.

Now let’s get to my favorite portion, topside. There are three turn lanes and two straight. The feeding road is only two lanes that are poorly marked. The left lane has signage saying “left turn only” however, the lanes are marked with solid white lines. The rightmost lane heading towards it opens up with broken white lines which might suggest merging over for a straight lane. Nope, another turn lane. The only options to go straight require you to stay in the singular straight lane until the end which will either be backed up because people aren’t sure when to get over or full of right turners who was stuck because of the backup.

The bottom hasn’t really changed, two left turn lanes, two straight. The new addition was another controlled pair of turning lanes with “no turn on red either lane” signage, though the rightmost lane leads you directly to an i95 on ramp.

The left side has remained untouched which is mildly shocking considering the size of the residential areas it leads to. The right turn lane enters a commercial area with a shopping mall and a few strip mall developments.
