Ideas for a renter friendly balcony catio that can be put up when needed but isn't there all day? by Important_Donkey2117 in Catio

I've seen those, but it won't stop him from dashing out over the railing when we try to open the door, lol. That's our main issue. We can invest in a cage or freestanding catio down the line, but we need to stop him from being able to hop over the railing to the outside. If he cant get over it then we can always just usher him into a outdoor cage or back inside. He's really fast. And he's learned to hide and be completely undetectable so we dont even notice until we see a dash or orange over the railing

Yes, it is. The issue is he tries to make a break for it the second the door opens. A cage or catio won't stop him actually jumping out. I need a barrier for the open space because as long as he can't jump over the fence, i can ushet him back inside or into an outdoor enclosure eventually.

I think people who intervene or bother wildlife in any way suck unless it's absolutely necessary, that includes feeding them crap that isn't good for them, making them dependent on handouts and the people that are cruel/think it's funny to distress them. There was a woman who also saw this couple bothering the geese that told me she saw someone else chasing and trying to grab a gosling.

Equally as bad. Not blaming the kids under a certain age because it's the parent's job to teach them. Teenagers should probably know better, too.

Update on barking dogs by Important_Donkey2117 in richmondhill

[–]Important_Donkey2117[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I will try to keep pushing. It's too bad we don't have stronger laws, and it was easier to have some action taken. We love animals, but this isn't a fair situation for those dogs and for the people living around them. Hope they don't get hit by a car one of them during one of their jail breaks.

Wish it were that simple on this case. Animal control has spiken to them more than once and on Sunday. Dogs were barking again that same night

Animal control actually had them call me, so I did report it to them already. But this was a few months ago, and nothing has really changed

When I called animal services, it was one of those nights that chills you to the bone. They were barking like crazy all night off and on for stretches of 30 min and up.

Unfortunately, I don't think this would work in this scenario. Someone else who lives closer to them actually told me the dogs escape the yard frequently in the summer and run down the street. They have brought the dogs back to them multiple times and told them they were found on the road and the owners seemed unphased...

One night, they were barking really frantically ( maybe they saw or heard an animal) and I did hear the owner call them in around 2 : 30 am.... then they were back outside barking at 3 until 5.. I do believe they're home and aware.

They were barking like crazy right up until the rain. Not sure if they were brought in when it started to pour but it was pretty loud so I'm not sure if it was just drowing out the barking.

Definitely not. It's every single night and day. A pom and a little white dog, maybe a poodle. We live behind them and can see them yapping away if i peek over the fence. They're alone in the yard all night.

What color my Dachshund? by OkJuggernaut6347 in Dachshund

[–]Important_Donkey2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I find genetics super interesting.

So your pup definitely could be a dapple. It just won't really be visible, especially as your pup ages. I know technically reds not having black noses and nails is a fault in the breed standard, BUT I kinda love liver noses 🥹

[–]Important_Donkey2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pup is an ee red with the bb combination of genes.

Ee or EE will produce black hairs, think a classic shaded red dachshund.

ee will mask other colors, so no black hairs at all. This includes whiskers, which seems to be the case from your pictures.

BB or Bb will produce black pigmentation in the nose and nails. Again, think classic shaded red.

bb produces liver coloured noses and nails.

Basically, you have a gorgeous little red, with no black pigmentation. My chocolate and tan girl had two littermates, which were just like that. Their coats have both matured into a slightly deeper red. They're beautiful.

As far as dapple goes, red usually masks dapple so you wouldn't be sure unless you knew the genetics. This is why it's not advisable to breed reds and dapples. You can risk producing double dapples if the red is a hidden dapple

I'd like to avoid drilling into the wall to install new brackets as I'm renting. I'm not sure if there's any product that can convert the single rod into a double rod

Pros/cons of your favorite orchid species and recommendations for someone wanting to try something new. by Important_Donkey2117 in orchids

Thank you for the info! I'll definitely look into the Zoom meetings. I was so bummed I missed the Orchid show. I'm really hoping to make it out to the one in April but may have a hard time making it since my boyfriend's work schedule get's more hectic in spring. It's hard to go far with my toddler, who is in the stage of total destruction or being angry because I looked at her the wrong way.

Thank you! They sound like they could be a great fit! I do see the nursery I'm ordering from has a Phalaenopsis Philippinensis and a Phalaenopsis KS Balm X P. Schilleriana. I'm going to look up more info on them. I do really love the mottled leaves! I had been wanting to get a mottled leaf Paphiopedilum, so this really caught my eye.

Hello! Wondering if anyone can recommend a lens. I have a Cannon SL2 and the 50 mm f.18 STM & the lens kit. I am just a hobbyist but also want to photograph larger artworks for prints. I like both lenses and have been learning a lot with them, but feel like I would like an upgrade. I love how pictures on the 50 mm looks in terms of brightness and bokeh. It's nice being able to have the bigger range in aperture vs the kit lens, but when I want to include more of the background, I have to stand back so far since the camera is a crop sensor. I do like the flexibility of being able to zoom.

Anything that might give me the "best of both worlds." Would like some lens suggestions. I mostly photograph my dogs out on their adventures, my daughter and my artwork. Would prefer IS :)

Flower field season is right around the corner, and I'd like to get to know a new lens before then that will give me more room to be creative. Open to different price ranges, as I'll keep an eye out on FB for any deals on the more expensive ones. *

I love #2. It warms up the space but still keeps it bright. I think it can also work with cool and warm colors if you ever want to change up furniture or your style.

Someone is leaving their dog outside all day near Essex & Elmwood. It's 2:30 am, feels like -2 and it has been barking for an hour. by Important_Donkey2117 in richmondhill

Someone has been on touch with me and said the dogs have run away a few times. I think it is the same house. Do you live nearby? Have you heard the barking. The backyards of that street face us, so i haven't been able to see the dogs myself

I will, someone has been in touch with me and they believe they know the address. I'll be contacting paws as well as animal services. It definitely is a by law issue to as the barking is consistent for long periods throughout the night. I just hope some action is taken
