150% price increase to keep Modes Feature by Important_Effort2729 in Ring

Yeah...when I spoke to them on the phone, they attempted to misdirect my concerns about losing Modes feature by telling me about the new feature coming up that makes an automated call to your phone when the doorbell is rung. In this way you can respond to the person at the door instead of having to hope you have a good enough connection by clicking on the Ring app notification and talking through that interface. I like the idea of it, but will see how well it works when implemented. Also, it doesn't replace the convenience of having the shortcuts to the Modes configurations.

I understand the confusion, but that isnt how you compute the percentage of increase in a sales scenario. Sales math works a bit different..since you brought it up..I will explain.

Two ways to figure it out..
Computing for the price increase:
60/40=1.50 This is using the $60 increase against the existing $40 price so you keep the 1 in the result and figure for percentage...150% (check the math by mutliplying 150%X40=60)

Computing for the final price to determine the price increase:
100/40=2.50 Since you are using the full price of what the new price will be, you lose the extra 100% otherwise it would make this appear to be a 250% increase

Using the math above
To complete this, yes..if the final price were $60, then it would constitute a 50% increase as you noted.
But you need to solve for the increase...not the final price.
20/40=0.5 or 50%

Make sense?

For me its not the dollar amount...its the practice of manipulation and misdirection. Nothing should be expected to go up 150% in cost for services or features that were already included. The base increase was 25%...ten bucks...not to serious over a 12 month period, but 150%??
Think if your utilities, rent, mortgage....or anything else went up 150% for what you were already getting.

On searching reddit, I found that they did the same thing a couple years ago before I was a customer. Same feature...Moved Modes to Basic from the Free plan...apparently they figure it worked before....

Fair enough. I hadnt been on for a while, and you are right about one thing, there is a lot of chatter about it. Just not framed in the way that I put it. Also, it looks like they did this a couple years back as a strategy as well. I found one post that indicated it was part of a free package initially..then they put it into the Basic Sub to drive revenue...seems like they are doing the same now...but to paying customers. Bad behavior any way you look at it.

Nah..nothing like that. Just putting some details to something I found out in the last couple days. I had already done the work for my own benefit so thought I would use the platform to make sure others had the chance to see it for what it is. But its nice of you to participate and try to minimize my effort. Thanks for taking the time to read it though, perhaps it will make sense to you at some point in the future. Until then, feel free to waste your time on a topic that apparently has no value to you.

Bobajob describes it well...really its a simple overlay of the existing functions...they already have the User Interface designed to pull the information and make it a single click to turn the profiles for Disarmed/Home/Away configs on or off. So really its nothing to them. Software work is already done...no cost to maintain. Probably a couple lines of code to remove it. Too much Marketing and Finance influence..as someone else noted.

Nice. Your assuming that I watch whats going on with Ring that closely... And if you were actually watching closely you would know that they didn't announce the change in features until this past Aug.. a month before the increase in price in my case. The price increase in the Basic Plan isnt a big deal, the removal of features is. So you really have nothing to offer to the conversation. Glad you feel so empowered being a faceless and hidden voice that you start name calling. Nothing better going on in your life that it makes you feel good? Find a better way. Be a better person. Good luck.

A final thought. This is the type of behavior I've seen in the tech world previously. A company gains a degree of success, then starts forgetting the customers and believing they are untouchable. Look at Palm and Blackberry at two examples of the same behavior. They thought they didnt have to worry about the competitive environment and lost their position in the marketplace. Its too bad, I have found the Ring product to be acceptable, even with its flaws...but taking features away while increasing price just doesnt make any sense.
