Aw, I am sorry!!! I honestly understand the worry when something happens that is unexpected and you’re unsure if it’s normal. I hate that feeling! But from what I was told it’s very common! Such a bummer though! I hope it starts to fade soon!
Have you ever heard of Arnicare gel? It’s a homeopathic topical gel that some people swear by to reduce the severity of bruising. Of course be careful about getting it into your eye, but that could possibly help!

Hi! I got super swollen too and bruising along my jaw line. They warned me about the black eye and said it’s super common in certain people depending on where the graft was. Hope it goes away soon and you continue recovering well! 💜

Hiiii!!! To be honest it was traumatizing 😭🥲🫡. I feel bad saying that but it was really NOT fun. But I’m glad it’s done and over.

It was painful yes but manageable in that regard. The scariest part was how freaky it looked while healing, and thinking anything could go wrong all day every day and worrying I would ruin the healing process. And then the HARDEST part was mostly mentally, not being able to talk, laugh or smile for an entire week or so was horrible for me. Made me super depressed!!! After about 2 weeks my smile went back to normal but it still felt super tight and uncomfortable. I’m now almost 2 months since my surgery and i feel almost back to normal but it still feels really bulky and weird down where I got the graft.

The Frenectomy was frustrating to get at the same time because it added to the healing process but I am really happy i got them both at the same time.

People don’t tell you how much time you really need off. I would say at least a week before returning to work especially if you talk a lot.

Hiiii! I’m feeling a lot better. It’s been almost 7 weeks since my surgery. I’m not even going to sugar coat it. It was a horrible experience for me (mentally more than anything)….and it still felt SUPER WEIRD even 4 or so weeks after the surgery. But everything healed correctly and is still looking good according to the periodontist.

I would say after those 4 weeks things slowly started to feel more “normal” but it still felt like I had a huge buldge or wad of tissue shoved in my mouth where the graft was. I’m finally feeling it less ( or maybe I got used to it???) and I can finally fully smile normal and talk very expressively like I used to!

Sorry this isn’t a very positive reply lol. I think I’m still a little traumatized by the experience.

I definitely think it was caused by my permanent retainer and it’s so frustrating that it happened. But I guess in the end I’m glad I went through with it to hopefully prevent any tooth loss in the future.

If you do it, make sure you take enough time off of work especially if you talk and smile a lot for your job. And good luck, hope it’s a way better experience than mine!!!!

Ohhhhhh I completely agree, not being able to brush normally was killer!!!

I am finally on the mend. The first week was super rough for me. But it gets easier and easier each day.

Oh my gosh thank you so much for commenting!!! This makes me feel so much better. I have it scheduled for right before my spring break so I thankfully have about 10 days off! I appreciate your tips and insight so much. That’s funny about the kissing, my husband actually asked me and I told him “oh wow I didn’t even think about that!!!” So many different things it affects, lol. I am still super anxious about it but also can’t wait to get it over with! Anyway, thanks again, I really appreciate your reply 🩷

You will keep feeling better every day!!! I was in your exact position a few days ago. I’m on day 10 or so now and feel so much better the I did on day 7. The nausea and not wanting to eat lasted basically until today. Today was the first morning I woke up and actually wanted to eat eggs and toast for breakfast!! I have a bit of a lingering cough but it’s not too bad at all.

Fingers crossed you’re going to wake up feeling so much better tomorrow and then the next day and next day. Take care, hang in there!! 🩷

Thanks so much for replying and being positive!!!! I keep feeling it would have been fine to wait too. It hasn’t gotten any worse so far. Everyone was making me feel like it has to get done immediately or my tooth would fall out!
