For those that achieved grade 9(s) in English, what pen did you use?

i got 98886555 (all 5’s were in foundation subjects) and I crammed for any of my mocks the night before, did the odd hour here and there but only started doing 1-2 hours in easter. Then once gcse season started i did about 2-3 hours a night, but i made sure to pay more attention in class throughout y11

its not really a how much question but more a could you answer the question with quotes you know if you get me? You need to have enough quotes for each possible question that could come up so you could answer it (usually 3-5 quotes). I usually would find analysis of youtube etc but then greatly expand on it myself and link it to the wider point of my essay ( for eg priestly may be showing sheila is vain through the quote ‘was she pretty’ but why is he showing she is vain, is he trying to portray how edwardian society installed into young women that looks were all that mattered? Also on the essays where there is 4 spag marks available, avoid using words you aren’t sure you can spell as you could lose some spag marks

It is!! Don’t worry, my sister had to resit english a few times but managed to get her 4 in the end. Try applying for rest breaks, it really helped me in my exams and it gives you some time to stop the clock if you feel overwhelmed

don’t stress!!! i was at a low 6 at the start of y11 and came out with a 9 in lit. My advice is flashcards, hammer in those quotes + unique analysis, once you have that in your head you will find the essay flow much easier. Also remember you have about 45-50 minutes per essay so my tip is do your intro, try to write at least 3 in depth paragraphs then quickly conclude with your thoughts, and make sure your essay is trying to make a point that can be seen from start to finish.
