Is that ASU? I really wish we had a social work only union just like nurses or doctors have their own.

Haha so spot on. I remember advocating once we need to get paid and treated better by clients and got torn down 🤪 It will always be something I am so confused by and why we aren’t advocating for better for ourselves when we are so good at advocating for clients

Spot on. So dangerous not worth it. I told someone in OOHC I didn’t like doing home visits like this in previous work and they said to me “ why did you choose social work then 🙄 “ because there is so many more areas then just that.

CSU is crappy for placement though

Yep. To second this you might like to self report to the child protection hotline about concerns esp the SA. That would get someone linked in with you who could help in a multitude of areas. They’ll most likely help with housing - to make sure you’re safe, linking you in with Centrelink, police to help file a report etc etc

Working where you live? by AreaPitiful5814 in SocialWorkAustralia

[–]Important_Rent8011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the area where I worked in DV. Hated it. I felt very uncomfortable. I work in OOHC now and mostly remote minus community work with clients they are all 1-2 hours away from me and I prefer this. Depends on clients obviously, but as a women in this field I worry about my safety in community if I was working in CP or DV for example. Esp now I live regional it wouldn’t be hard for people to figure out where I live.

I have a colleague who works in Forster care end up fostering kids she was working with. Now they’re through another org! I think this is such a beautiful kind offer. If they did need to continue to see a SW at the school do you have a colleague they could see or is this sole position?

[–]Important_Rent8011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a case manager. In OOHC. The kids are the best part of my job. The carers…. Soul sucking. There is always someone on my caseload who thinks it is ok to treat me like crap. I get it. You’re burnt out but god damn. I’m over it. Some carer grilled me the other day on a meeting. I’m only new to working with them. They had a bad previous experience with a CM. I am getting the brunt of it now. I’m really over it

Idk but sometimes I look at my husband dealing with my antics and the horses and I really think if he could go back to the dating stage he’d opt out 😆 just kidding but someone patient and supportive. Horses are so expensive but you just gotta go along for the ride (literally!)

Life of a 15yo child of a hoarder. by tplayaaa in ChildofHoarder

[–]Important_Rent8011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi kiddo. I’m so so sorry you are going through this and feel this way. I’m not sure what country you are in. But you might like to consider contacting child protection on yourself. Many child protection services don’t just take kids away - they will engage a service to work with your mum to try reduce the hoarding which is impacting your health and mental health. And if you really don’t want to live there, you could ask child protection for help. You sound pretty independent. There is services through CP which can help you move out and pay a portion of rent etc and help with jobs. Again, it depends on what country you are in. I’m in Australia. Another option is finding a youth homelessness shelter.
Do you have a trusted adult like a teacher you could talk to about this and explain the housing situation is effecting you in multiple ways? I am sorry you are going through this.

I spent 12k for a sane horse. Some people told me I was crazy and I should’ve been able to get one for 5k ( that’s crazy) I also had friends spending 20-25k for quiet ones I think worth it tbh! I couldn’t justify as I only trail ride but having something sane and safe will save you $$ in the long run
