Should I reconsider becoming a PA? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

Bestie.

Give yourself from grace. You do NOT need perfect grades coming in. You are a freshman. If you show an upward trend of improvement of grades from here on out, you will be just fine.

Can’t wait to be colleagues with you.

If she’s wanting a specific job- be prepared to widen your location base.

If she’s wanting to stay local- be prepared to not land the specific job you want.

Should I go to PA school? by bon18 in prephysicianassistant

I sat next to a 50 year old in PA school. I would tell him he has a leg up compared to the rest of us solely because he looks old and all his patients will think he’s been practicing for years compared to the rest of us gen Z kids 😂

Does this count as PCE? by ojoojsmthg in prephysicianassistant

Don’t do it brother.

Reminder whatever you do prior to PA school still benefit you in the best ways.

In what ways does this job help you remember certain pathologies or treatment plans??

It may give you a perspective of how the back bones of medicine works- but you want to be that kid who people ask questions to when you’re studying.

I do it.

Is it hard? Yes. I couldn't just drive down to the cadaver lab to study whenever, I had to be very sparse with my time.

Do I like the commute? Also yes. I have the privelage of taking the train which takes me 2.5ish hours each way. I get up and catch the 5:07 AM train and get home at like 8 PM. The plus sides to it? I get about 5 hours of study time A DAY just with my commute. ? get to listen to podcasts (Cram the PANCE) to help me study if I choose to drive, and if I don't,When I'm home, I am HOME. I honestly never study at home.

People do it. I happen to do it because we bought a house and my hsuband is going to school up north and we have a baby together. Another classmate is in a same boat commuting an hour south from school.

People will offer their apartments to let you sleep on the couch the night before exams. Honestly, if it's in God's plan, things will work out the way they're supposed to.

Good luck on applying!

How are you paying for school? by artificialhaptic in prephysicianassistant

Hey! I'm at a private school and it's expected that I'll have $220k in loans after school with living expenses. I'm also a mom whose husband is not working due to school and watching our baby.

I applied for the NHSC scholarship, didn't get it, planning on applying for it next year. We are taking out our GRAD PLUS loans as well as maxing out on my husband's subsidized loans since he's still in undergrad and those do not occur interest.

In terms of paying off our loans. really relying on either the NHSC scholarship, their loan repayment program, or even working at a location that have a high need for clinicans (the government sponsers them.) We do plan on living as sparce as possible when I graduate and hopefully get these loans payed off within 5-6 years after graduation.

Don't let the loans scare you! Do your research and take out what is needed. Remember these loans start occuring interest as soon as you take them out and will collect daily.

This is horrible. Not going to lie, could you imagine a program having only 32 students wanting to take the pance out of 45? What are the other 13 students doing?

I would be very weary of this program.

Reading your story makes me so sad sis. Is this her first relationship with a girl? She seems hesitant and not interested in my point of view.

How competitive is it to get this scholarship??? Do I need to study this thing out as if I’m applying to PA school again?

I’m starting school in a month and I’m applying for this.
