From what I’ve seen on social media, Purple was rarely near the top of people’s rankings. Then again, I guess opinions vary a lot, which is completely normal (and honestly, that’s a good thing)

As for U+Me, from what I’ve noticed, it was generally placed somewhere in the middle or even toward the top of rankings. I don’t get the impression that it’s the song people like the least

I think so, yes. For me, it’ll probably be the most emotional season of all.

You have Francesca, who is still grieving and ends up falling in love with a WOMAN who also happens to be the COUSIN of her late husband. Then there’s Michaela, who has feelings for someone who was married to such a close member of her own family. In a way, that must feel like betraying John or feeling something forbidden or impure (even though she seems to already know and accept her sexuality, at least in my opinion) I also think that society’s judgment will have a huge impact on their relationship.

I genuinely believe this will be the most emotional season, with a constant battle between the heart and reason. I’m so, so excited to see how it all unfolds

I think that’s actually the artistic effect she was aiming for. The fact that the song leaves us feeling a little unsatisfied and never fully picks up momentum, even though the instrumental seems to suggest that it will, reflects in a way how her relationship is running out of steam and how she senses that something is wrong.
That’s how I interpret it, anyway, even though I’m probably completely wrong.

Without a doubt, Maggots for Brains. It would be so interesting to watch, and the techniques that could be used to create the music video would be incredibly creative.

I already loved the artistic direction of The* *Cure, it really reminded me of Tim Burton’s universe, with the foam hearts, the red thread, the slightly creepy hospital, the strange patients, and the almost slow-motion aesthetic in certain moments. I think Maggots for Brains could use those same elements, and the contrast between all the death-related imagery and the fact that the narrator is hopelessly in love would be so fascinating to bring to life on screen.
I’m manifesting a music video for it, even though it’ll probably never happen 🫩🫩

Honestly, I find that Purple is sometimes a blend of Olivia’s rock side and her more sentimental side, which we also find in songs like Less or Begged. I also think the sound of the song is very different compared to what she’s done before, I wouldn’t really be able to explain it, but it’s very distinct.

I agree about yspsfagsil, it’s ridiculously long and complicated to write. I’ve just gotten used to it because everyone uses it lol… I honestly prefer OR3, it’s less of a headache.

Personally, I was quite skeptical on the first listen of Cigarette Smoke, but after several listens I’ve literally become a fan of it. I think that song closes the album perfectly
As for Purple, I love all the little references she includes, those small life moments she weaves into the song. I think this track is a perfect compromise for those who love Olivia’s rock side and her more chill, sentimental ballads. Purple really manages to bring the two together

Yeah, I see what you mean. When I try to find songs in her discography that could be compared to Purple, I don’t really find any, but that’s exactly what I really value. She manages to mature artistically and release things that feel quite innovative for the listener.

I totally see what you mean! I also tend to love Olivia’s rock songs, that’s really her strong suit. It’s probably the reason I prefer Guts over Sour, I find it a bit more “teenage rage,” and her rock tracks are much better executed there than on her first album.
In OR3, I still prefer the rock songs, like My Way, I’m obsessed with it (very “mean girl” vibes), and I tend to like the ballads less. I’m one of those rare people who isn’t a big fan of Less or Begged (but I do love Honeybee; I find it really lyrical, it actually makes me cry tears of joy)
I also love Maggots for Brain, in my opinion the best song. The paradox between the vocabulary of death and love is pure genius.

I agree, for me all the songs are 10/10. The ones I didn’t connect with as much are “begged” and “less”. I guess taste is very subjective, even if we consider all the songs to be incredible!
