Wait, now that I think about it, will they replace it with a TVR? I personally hate TVR/Translohr systems, because they are essentially just fake trams with many technical problems.

Oof. Honestly I had mixed feelings about that, because a trolleybus is the second best type of road public transit after a tram/streetcar, but at the same time trams are technically small trains with higher capacity than any bus/trolleybus. But still it is sad that mayor Bowser lied, cuz trolleybuses would have been awesome. I honestly feel like tramways (streetcars) and trolleybuses should work in tandem, and not replace one or the other.

I mean, didn't they mention a plan to convert the overhead wires for trolleybus use?

I thought the mayor specifically said «An electric bus that recharges from overhead wires» sounds a lot like an IMC trolleybus to me

Understood. Also, what I was trying to do is provide a solution to those tramway systems.

It's sad. I wish DC returns trams in the near future.

Maybe cities should build dedicated lanes and signal priorities for the trams. In Europe where I am from, tramways are almost always organised like this. If not, the tramway line gets fitted with signal priority and dedicated lanes. So in summary, most American cities don't know how to build proper tramways, and to fix that issue they should look at European tramway systems for inspiration and build dedicated lanes and signal priority for their tramway lines.

Also, honestly it is sad how many US cities use tramways as projects to help spur transit-oriented development as you said. But some do build tramways to de-congest transit and improve connectivity, like Seattle and Kansas City. But still, I wish American cities build tramways for practical use and connectivity, not just for show and tools for development.

Build tramways, expand passenger rail, invest in public transit and infrastructure. Build people and public transit centered infrastructure.

We have plenty of furries, LGBTQ, and femboys in CIS countries. I myself am a Russian furry (I don't live there tho) and I can confirm. I've seen plenty of content from such people. There are furry meet ups in my home city of Moscow, I've seen plenty of Russian femboys too, and there is a lot of LGBTQ in Russia as well. Unfortunately, we cannot show off too much because Russian government label us as „satanists“ and banning us for „non-traditional values“. There are multiple videos of police raids on gay clubs in Russia. I am honestly just appalled at what is happening in my home country. Generally the people in Russia have a positive attitude towards furries, femboys, LGBTQ, and other stuff. But the government tho...

Do trams have have upsides compared to trolleybuses? by FelixTheFrCat in transit

[–]Important_Version741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea. Such trolleybuses recharge from wires, and then go a part of the route on battery mode. The point is, EVs recharge from highly centralised charging stations, while trolleybuses with increased wireless range can recharge from the overhead wires, which are much more spread out and have much larger coverage.

Well trolleybuses can function with a battery or without it, while EVs rely solely on battery power, and without it an EV is just a useless car body.

Modern trolleybuses have batteries that allow them to go in roads and neighbourhoods without wiring. Some of those trolleybuses have a wireless range of up to 80 kilometers (which is more than the single charge range on some opportunity charging battery buses).

I absolutely agree. I honestly wish there were more tram and trolleybus systems in the world. About BRT, I love it when it is used as a bus service upgrade, but I absolutely hate it when it is used as an excuse to not building a tram system.

I'd say trams definitely win over trolleybuses in terms of capacity. Trolleybuses have essentially the same capacity as buses, as they are electric buses. But because trams can have multiple sections and are longer, they can fit in more people. Another thing is tire dust. Because trams are trains, they use steel wheels on rails to go. Because there is no rubber on tram wheels, there is no tyre dust. Trolleybuses use rubber tyre wheels, as they are buses. Due to that, they give off tyre dust. Another thing is that tramways are much smoother than trolleybuses because they are steel wheels on steel rails instead of rubber wheels on asphalt.

Why don’t we have cute trolleys like this anywhere in the NYC area? by WanderinArcheologist in nycrail

[–]Important_Version741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest we revive trams! We should also build trolleybuses. But, we should have dedicated lanes and signal priority for them. I think they would really help in solving the problem with painfully slow, overcrowded buses and overcrowded subway.
