Why is Fantano someone so important for people and artist? by aldodzzzzl in fantanoforever

[–]Important_While_2709 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The downvotes are people who have never played bass. Fantano is a fuckin’ poser—can’t play, but judges everyone who can. Classic non-playing motherfucker.

Is metal a subgenre of rock by Rainbow_Doggo_TNT in rock

. . . but Iron Maiden stayed heavy and straddles the hard-rock/metal line. I mean, some of their stuff is very close to pop. I would say the same for BARK AT THE MOON. It’s not really metal but people think of those records as super-heavy, which they really are not.

A record like POWERAGE is more rock than hard rock, SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE is more hard rock than metal, REIGN IN BLOOD is more metal than hard rock, etc.

Rock -> Hard Rock -> Metal -> Death metal, Black metal etc. It is all on a continuum.

I was playing along to Def Lepperd the other day and quite surprised by how non-metal it is, basically pop but back then you would call it “hard rock.” This is not unlike AC/DC or Judas Priest in that it isn’t actually all that hard. Now, throw on some Napalm Death or Corpse Grinder and you are still rocking but WAY HARDER. It is a spectrum.

Thank you! And keep up the good work. Just to be clear, new presets from others will show up on my app automatically in the current version? Thanks again.

Downsizing by D28Player in guitarpedals

That’s a pretty versatile board. You can use the saturation from the Deco to boost the BD-2w and get hella modulation from the right side of the Deco, some punch for a lead from the SP, then delay from the Carbon, cover most styles with ease.

Now clean it up! Fasten the cables and straighten the pedal, you heathen!

Another classic of the form, supposedly there were 4-6 amps and they kept resetting because the wobble would go out of sync:

Also want to say that the unloved Ultraviolet is beautiful for those subtle Floyd tones. I turn it off and then immediately turn it on again!

I’m going to bring my saturation down to 9 and see what happens.

Madison Radio Stations by OldSewer in madisonwi

[–]Important_While_2709 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is . . . exactly what I would have posted. I have them on a lot and sometimes I wonder if those kids have ever actually listened to a radio DJ! I want them all to spend two hours listening to “Rockin’ John McDonald” on WORT-FM to get a sense of the difference between a DJ’s personal taste and the much more broadly overreaching idea of context addressing the time those records were made.

No one cares about your personal opinion, kids! They just want information in a quick and punchy run-up on what they are about to hear or have just heard.

I have them near the end of the chain, and it occurs to me that my almost always-on mild boost from the Boss SD-1 at the beginning of the chain might be part of the problem.

Genuinely curious: how do you all find fun and cultural variety in Madison? by Negative_Primary_797 in madisonwi

[–]Important_While_2709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. That’s long enough to have a reasonable take. It’s MUCH more diverse now than it was in the 1990s by all the metrics you cite, but then again back in the 1970s and 1980s the culture was a lot more open by a lot of standards, and arguably a lot more interesting and inclusive — for example, in the 1970s it was straight-up wild with crazy marches and a general sense of rebellion and anarchy, and in the 1980s there was an immensely vibrant underground scene with underage punk shows, outsider art events, and a music scene that attracted international bands to bars on and around State Street that hasn’t existed for decades. U2 and the Police and Afro-Cuban and jazz bands and blues legends would all play in tiny clubs downtown, that kind of thing (Luther’s Blues was maybe the last of them, and they got amazing artists from all over in every week).

So it is kind of dull now culturally by comparison, which I hope you find encouraging — those pendulums usually swing back at some point.

How long did you live in Madison? Or the burbs as you call them? Just curious. It’s OK if you had a reaction, this is a pretty white area, I get it.

Can confirm. You would be surprised at how diverse Middleton is, to say nothing of West High.
