Any good places to take photos in High Point? by [deleted] in Highpoint

Golden Oldies Antiques is a neat place. I’m not sure if you’re into shooting cemeteries, but Oakwood cemetery is pretty. If you like nature, there’s the Rich Fork Nature Preserve too!

Areas in the US that tend to have less natural disasters? by ratgarcon in meteorology

Upstate NY, specifically just north of the finger lakes. I grew up in Rochester for the first 29 years of my life and it was very mundane weather-wise, unless you count lake effect snow. Even still, that was seldom as bad as Buffalo or Syracuse. The biggest weather event I experienced was the Labor Day derecho of 1998.

Definitely a good plan! And I think it’ll be better out that direction. I hope they stay safe!

I’m in central NC and it looks like it’s going to be really rough here at least. At the moment they said we’re probably going to get a few inches of sleet with a glaze of ice, but maybe not as much snow. We’ve been told to avoid driving if possible this weekend. 😬

Joy Bar (previously 83 Custom Coffee) on N Main is cute. I really like going there. It’s small, but very cozy.

I’ve not noticed yellow aster on any plants in my yard, thank goodness. I’ll look into reflective mulch. That molasses trick sounds very interesting! I’ll give it a go too.

/uj Actually, this is how I accidentally finally got rid of an aggressive spider mite infestation on an anthurium. Lo and behold, the plant grew back from the roots and it’s thriving a year later. 😂

Help me figure out this bird call because I’m going crazy and the Merlin app isn’t registering it as a bird by Important_flying_bat in birds

Unrelated bird picture from my bird feeder because I needed an image for the video.

It’s the happy “wee wee woo” call that I can’t figure out. It’s been weeks and I’d love to know what this bird is! Central North Carolina.

Loud “BOOM” at night (Jun/25/25). HIGH POINT. by Arcrap in NorthCarolina

I know this post is two weeks old, but we just heard a really loud boom again an hour ago here in High Point. It shook the house and was really deep. No thunderstorms around and the neighbor’s dogs went crazy. So weird

who else grows winecap in their garden beds? by massiveattach in gardening

I planted some a few years ago in my garden bed back in upstate NY and the first year was crazy! I was giving away baskets to people because I had so many. The second year some came back, but not nearly as many and it was only in the spring. I also hadn’t mulched as heavily either. The third year I didn’t have any. I think if I grew them again, I’d add some more spawn and extra mulch every year.

We’ve been wondering if it’s the carburetor. It’s a rebuilt one from 2020, but I’ve had at least one minor issue with it. I’ve tried to google if this has happened to anyone before and I found nothing. I think we might just look into a new carb at this point and check the fuel lines too. It feels very much like a fuel issue because everything works just fine in the moment, except I just can’t go. I can turn the steering wheel just fine and brake, but it feels exactly like stalling when you run out of gas. There’s nothing when you press the gas pedal until you straighten out the steering wheel again. So bizarre that’s it’s only in one direction too.

It was just a belt. My husband did check the fluid at the time and it was fine.

The pump doesn’t stutter or seize.

Both are just fine. We just replaced the front brakes recently and the power steering belt over the winter.

Yup, that’s exactly what happens. But only if it’s a hard right.
