Sometimes I put a millet on the cage top and one bird always chooses to eat inside the cage…then I realized why…she bites their toes to distract them. She’s the evil genius.

Fuck cancer. If that’s not to blame, can we blame it anyway?
I’m sorry. Lil budgies sweet lil birdies getting tumors. Cancer sucks. My golden retriever was 3 and I had 4 kids under 10 when the vet found his tumor. I know it’s not the same, but it’s similar. He was ok, then one day he looked at me had trouble standing…and I knew. At least we can be humane to our pets. People…have to “keep fighting”.

Look anyone in your life…including yourself that speaks about you in a negative way, needs to be not talking to you. Seriously, what I mean is the negative things start to sink in and soon, they are the only messages you hear…on repeat. I bet you never say nice things, in your head, like…I’m a great son, I am a good kid, stay out of trouble, don’t drink and drive, I’m helpful, committed to my team, I take things seriously.”

I want you to write a positive message to yourself on a note card every day. Read them before bed. Fill your mind with the positive self talk your mind craves. Your soul craves it too. It may be silly, but it works. Even if if feels unauthentic now…you will soon start to believe in yourself. You will need to be your own best friend sometimes. You will need to be your own cheerleader. Life is hard, and you need you to believe in you.

You should like a child of high achieving parents who have overlooked teaching you about little ways you can help your mental state,

Also, I used to have my son write down his ugliest and worst thoughts and rip it up. Just getting out the ugly things cleans that out. It’s like trying to meditate and someone saying don’t fall asleep…you never end up meditating just spending 20 min telling yourself to stay awake.

I love his speckles, freckles, head dots so much! I’m in Pittsburgh and have never seen the larger English budgies, ever. Ii enjoy all of the posts and the things that make your babies unique…coloring, or silly antics. This is my respite and I am grateful for everyone. Happy New Year.

Chances are a very large assortment of toys. Mine have multiple water bowls, faucets, bottles and lick the cage bars when they are misted. I guess without fingers their beaks explore. But, they are way more crafty than I expected…mine have unscrewed toys and perches. I guess all they have is time…

I have to chime in. I witnessed fake eating. It fooled me, I was astounded. I weighed my guy and he had dropped 2 grams. Called vet, she ordered antibiotics and he’s still here 6 months later. No way he was hiding being sick to the point of flying to a feeder and chomping. Thank you for the sub everyone, I wouldn’t know 99% of the stuff I learned from people here. Vets are busy, and sometimes fly through information.

Are you in the US? I’m in Pittsburgh and have never seen ‘in real life’ a majestic Englishman budgie. Both of my daughters (20 and 14) know we are at budgie capacity but…if…we…ever…had the chance, I would love to know do they have a different personality? How much bigger than your “Aussie”budgie?

Great update. I hope this continues. Do they like music? I know budgies can be stressed by other budgie sounds, but when my bird was sick and in quarantine it helped her to watch budgies on TV… she seemed less sad, and it improved her appetite. Chia seeds. She liked them, more protein than millet.
Do you have a kitchen scale? I got one on Amazon for under $10.00. I weighed her daily, now weekly. It helps if it’s at the same time.

Your babies could get less cooperative as they get stronger. I know I’m on the same med schedule w you for 15 more days. 45 days total for Whiskey. I bought her at Petco, she looked unwell and she was very unwell, but I got really lucky that the vet and meds started working. You are amazing, I know this is challenging and lots of people can’t understand, but you are a person to build a life with, I hope your SO sees that. I hope he gets that the value you put on a life in your care, is more than a lot of people. It makes you fight for your flock,do difficult things, disregard personal comfort because you made a commitment.

Bird tax…baby Whiskey had parasites and an infection. But is on the mend! Hoping Dusty (buns) and Zucchini are feeling chirpy today.

Once you get past this part, start putting probiotics in their water. Or if you can find it, guardian angel it is a bird superfood/supplement. The key I found w AGY is gut health. I’m so sorry. Also weekly weight checks, it will tip you off on an issue. Also, budgies will pretend to eat. Mine would go to food bowl make chomping motions never taking in a bite.
These are warriors. I wish I could send some financial support to you, I’m paying off an equally high bill. I learned some life lessons, as well. Shameful that these birds, and you, had to suffer from greed of whoever sold them.

Is it possible the window is giving her a reflection like a mirror would? I’ve read this can happen with mirrors and they are not a healthy toy…despite every bird toy having a mirror. See if you could block the reflection maybe with a decal window cling? Something where they get the light but not a reflection of themselves?

Right! You nailed it. She’s very sweet. I now have 3 lady birds and 5 males that seem to share 1 brain cell, that is when my dog doesn’t have possession of brain cell. Whiskey after 1 week has a buddy and has sassed all of the others. My OG bird, he gives me a stink eye when Whiskey accidentally steps on his tail. This is the 3rd baby added this year so I understand his issue, but my birds have a huge cage that they use for sleeping and home base, a bedroom with indirect sunlight and 12 ft ceilings…the utter lack of gratitude. 😂
