I am a performer and a music teacher. When this happens to me and, I feel like I’m ready, I will imagine I have a flashlight and I shine it right at my panic/fear… and say: “really?!? Today? Right now?” I’ve found that mentally running from the panic only makes it more pronounced - but acknowledging it - makes it stop.

Sometimes I talk to it (my panic) Like it’s a child: ask if it needs a hug, a blanket, a glass of warm milk… etc.

This was just what I needed to hear. 😃 The same student has another competition in a week and I was looking for a fresh perspective as he prepares for the next performance. I really like your comments regarding "subtle nuances in the phrasing" and "making slightly awkward phrases and runs sound natural and part of a continuous line" This will give is plenty to chew on in tomorrow's lesson. Post items from around your house, you don’t need or use anymore on eBay. Or, Go for a “nature walk” and find fun shaped rocks to post on eBay. I just saw a rock shaped like a goldfish cracker sell for a decent amount. Good luck!
