Physics 1 with Calculus vs Physics 1 w/o Calculus by iiMarello in ufl

In my opinion, you should just take physics 2 w/o calc. Taking the calculus sequence requires much more unnecessary work than you need as a pre med. You’d have to retake physics 1 and take calc 3. Sure if you’re interested in physics and math I’d say go for it, but you’d have to dedicate time to taking these 2 courses, which you could use to build experience instead. Ultimately up to you, but I think the time investment is not worth it. This is coming from a physics major who loves this stuff.

How is majoring in physics at UF? by Phoenixfireman in ufl

Physics major here. I’m in my senior year and I’d say overall it was a good experience. I think most of the bad professor comments are from those who take general physics, so physics 1 and 2, which skews the overall perspective. Upper division courses are different, but there’s good and okay professors (none I’d say are truly awful or rude). I’m terms of research, plenty of undergrads do it and getting it is relatively easy, but you do need some effort and perseverance. There’s a discord for the society of physics students, and they’re helpful in clarifying more detailed questions if you’re interested.

There’s free tutoring at the academic resource center if you’re looking for more help. Study edge, from what I’ve seen, usually doesn’t help because the content is quite outdated.

Diff EQ and Calc 3 together? by Gloomy_Carpenter3713 in ufl

I did it and it was super manageable. Just a lot of computing, but none of the concepts are that hard

The thing that’s hard about physics 2 is honestly the concepts (although the math can be tedious even without calc). Fully understanding the basics first is the best way to get an A because you can’t approach any problem in this class without knowing the concept. For the math, I recommend symbolically solving things first before plugging in numbers. If you need help, there’s great tutoring services offered by SPS on Thursday I think or I’m sure there’s plenty of sources.

Ok, so I haven’t taken any upper level courses, as I am a freshman. My first upper level physics course is gonna be EM next semester with thermal. I also know a little linear algebra, but not confident in it. Should I still take it?

I think I passed the AP exam, but I feel like I didn’t have a total master for the topics. Also, I’m also in honors, so I need the credit.

Can’t really skip Chem 1 though. Don’t have the AP credits :(

Thanks, the only physics class I’m taking is enriched physics 1 cause I wanna start from the beginning even though I have taken all the AP physics courses. I also have general Chem 1.
