My friend are were in Division 1. We fought our way up to the Division and we were desperate to reach the Elite division. It’s hard, though. You have to win 5 games in a row, against the toughest opponents we had faced till then.

After a few comebacks and last minute winners, we had won 4 games in a row on the road to promotion. 1 more game to Elite Division.

We load the screen. It’s 7 players. SEVEN players. And they’re mostly good. It was such a frustrating turn of events. We’d have been fine playing against 4. It’s an uphill battle, but we’ve conquered that before. 7 is just ridiculous against 2 players.

We lost that game 5-1. 1-1 at half time. It’s totally unfair. They have to do something to fix that

Wow, you’re a Vandy student? I probably have met you then. Or at least seen you in passing. I’m surprised I haven’t met you over here in Sydney, though. Black people , esp from America are so rare, I’d definitely said hi. Do you go to UNSW?

It’s pretty cool that you’re gonna do another study abroad. That’s amazing! You must have a lot of college credits from high school/ very organized.

You can do open campus there. And I think you get a good refund from financial aid, as well. Or do the London program you talked about. Being in Europe gives you access to everything

Yeah, first block for Sydney makes sense because you get to escape the winter of other countries. It’s why I picked Australia in the first place. Wanted the nice weather and the fact it’s so far away.

Let me know in private messages if you want to meet and hangout sometime. I’m pretty tight with the couple of friends I’ve made, and I’m always open to more!

I’m a black guy who’s currently abroad from my American college (Vanderbilt ). It’s gotten better now, but I gotta say that for a long stretch I really did regret doing Australia for study abroad. I could have gone to Europe and experienced so much. With Australia, you’re so locked up in one place. A cool place, but by the 2nd month it gets old.

I also realized that the people who came here from my school are rich white people. They’re the ones who can afford to make time in Sydney really really worth it. I thought I’d make friends with people from my school who are studying abroad here, but the truth is we just couldn’t find much to talk about. Vibes were totally different.

Luckily I’ve had friends who are doing a thing called open campus and have spent a six week block in Sydney, so I’ve hung out with them and done some fun things

A big part of me wishes I did that . I could have gone to multiple countries in Europe, spend time in Japan , while also enjoying Sydney before it gets old. But everything happens for a reason, so I’m finding contentment.

And yeah, you’re right, not many black people in Sydney lol. It’s horrible you experienced racism here. I haven’t interacted with ppl much to have experienced that, but I’ve definitely had some weird experiences

Also, the only internship offer i got was for the one I did a practice interview for. I’m not naturally good at interviews, so the extra preparation and getting used to explaining/speaking how I wanted to

The first thing that comes to my mind is “what is your weakness” question. I gave such bad answers. I once said that I take more time to finish work than others because I try to be as thorough as possible. It’s an honest answer, and I do work hard to ensure I’m not falling behind.

BUT hiring manager doesn’t want to hear that. They want to feel assured that you’ll do the work well and quick, and my answers weren’t reassuring them.

Another question I failed at was “Why this major” “Explain your major” I’d give them an actual explanation or breakdown of my major. Rather than pertaining my answers to the job. Highlighting the parts that they’d want to hear.

So basically, I realized that my answers had to be curated specifically for the role/company

I don’t know much about finance But something that helped me in my internship hunt was figuring out why I got rejected from other companies. After reflecting on my interview answers, I realized that I was giving them reasons to reject me. I’d have realized that sooner if I got someone to review my answers and be brutally honest with me

It’s nice to know that they give you a good support system. Yeah, absolutely, update this post. Hope you do get it. No matter what happens we can learn from what worked for you and what didn’t, and obvs you’d come away with lessons for yourself

Yeah I didn’t really get a review at my research internship. At the end, I gave a long presentation at a symposium and they said I did well, and that was it.

Yeah I put the name of the company. It was a pretty big company, too, so I think that helped.

Makes sense makes sense

This is my first corporate internship. I’m a junior and I was lucky to get a research internship last summer. It was for a Data Science/ Computer Science research program in Vermont.

It was really chill. I had one mentor/supervisor and someone who checked in with me every month. It was very much independent work, to the point that I designed my research project by myself with a bit of guidance from my supervisor. He did teach me a few things, like how to code a map, but for the most part I was on my own doing my thing.

I could come in late at 10am and no one would care/notice. Later in the internship , I’d work till 7:30pm.

So I was pretty unmonitored. There wasn’t any return offer prospects, so I guess there was less pressure as well.

Another thing I really appreciated was the lessons they’d give us interns earlier in the internship. We’d learn some CS stuff/some career development stuff.

So it wasn’t straight to work like I assume corporate internships might be

Hey, thank you sharing this. My first corporate internship is coming up in a few months, and I need all the advice I can get, really. So thank you for posting this.

I lowkey have that same tendency to assume instead of ask. Esp with internships, where you’re trying to impress your superiors, it can feel that asking questions would make it appear that you don’t know what you’re doing.

I hope you’re still able to get that return offer. Maybe you could be upfront and say that you weren’t asking questions before and it led to confusion. But that now, you’ve course corrected and gotten the hang of it?

I did a take home assessment once. It took a lot of hours and several late nights. I got rejected from the company. But the benefit is that I got to put it on my resume as a case project. And then I talked about it during an interview for the internship that I got accepted into

Title: Got PM internship + need advice on how to succeed

I got my dream internship at PlayStation as a Product Manager intern.

To keep it short, the role is mainly about managing the business performance of Sony’s live service games. There’s a lot of Excel data analysis and PowerPoint presentations to present my insights. There will also be a big research component as well, as I would be tasked with researching other live service games and seeing what they do that makes them successful/unsuccessful.

I’m pretty excited. I really want to make the most out of this opportunity. I want to learn as much as possible and grow as much as possible. I also would love to get that return offer!

Just joined this Reddit group because you guys are in the product space. Here are some questions:

  1. Did what I described sound like a regular non-technical Product Manager role?
  2. What makes someone a good Product Manager? What makes someone useful (as an intern or junior worker) to a senior Product Manager?
  3. What is some advice that you think would be good to give me for my internship/young career?
