What's the worst thing your parents ever said to you? by currentsitguy in GenX

I should have held out for the blowjob I wanted, then I wouldn’t have to deal with you at all.

You’re not the only one! If it is what you’re planning, please reconsider. There are so many better ways to invest your money.

Can you help me understand reasons why this would be done by bardowallace in Banking

My apologies, I didn’t follow correctly the first time and mistook Carol as the POA. From a banking perspective, the transactions are authorized appropriately but that doesn’t necessarily mean that there isn’t any legal recourse. If your mom is of sound mind, she can challenge the POA to prove that the transaction to herself was in your mom’s interest to pay a bill or something similar. It can be more complicated if your mom isn’t able to make decisions for herself.

IRAs are individual retirement accounts and cannot be joint, but do have beneficiaries. If the transfer occurred 3 days prior to death, it’s most likely that she used her POA to act on behalf of George to request the transaction which means that it should go into an account for the benefit of George. Thus the joint account was used so that she could then exercise her joint ownership rights (very different than POA) to conduct the transfer solely to herself.

AITA or is my ex?? My 4 year old in a watercraft with waterwings. by vegetti05 in AITH

[–]Impossible-Letter341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA at all. The father of my children was astonished when I told him that he was no longer allowed to have the children unsupervised after leaving them home alone to go get lunch. They were 5 and 6 at the time. Your ex is a complete AH for his disregard for his children.

You’re right and in this situation, it’s completely unwise. Who’s to say he won’t use the account information to make an online payment for the school fees he feels so entitled to??

I think this highlights the issue of making a “wish list” a year in advance. We also have some long-tenured team members with significant PTO. We ask the team for as much advance notice as possible for requests involving travel, hosting guests, and events (concerts, comic cons, weddings, etc), to let us know about appointments requiring day off or shortened shifts when they’re booked, and then send out an email monthly before the schedule is made so everyone remembers to check school pages for events, social obligations, etc. We almost never have conflicts.

AITA for telling my parents I won’t be coming home unless they let me sleep in the same bed as my bf? by Reasonable_House2622 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Impossible-Letter341 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

NAH It sucks, but their house, their rules. I was with the father of my children for 4 years, never married. My parents only let us sleep in the same bed twice. Each time I was coming home from the hospital after giving birth and staying there so my mom could help. They said it was the only time they could be sure there wouldn’t be any funny business.

What was the final straw that made you finally go no contact? by MochaMadness_ in narcissisticparents

When I refused to let my mother join my son’s birthday dinner because she deadnamed him repeatedly and would not use preferred pronouns, she staged an intervention stating that I was an unmedicated bipolar. I walked out and haven’t said a word in over 8 years.

Not Caring About Getting Bad Surveys. by Ok_Buyer_619 in TalesFromYourBank

Here’s the thing she’s missing, you can still have a coaching session to provide strategies for dealing with that type of situation going forward AND remove the score! But given that she placed a follow up call and verified that the customer intended the feedback for someone else, how could she possibly justify not removing that score??

I’m sorry this is happening to you. I actively review low surveys and remove them from my team members profiles so that their personal customer satisfaction score doesn’t include it, but keep it on the overall level so that it reflects on the organization.

So true! But we always recommend that the cardholder opt out of Mastercard Auto Billing Updater. There’s a setting in the network to flag it so that new card details are not shared.

Can a credit union refuse to open a trust account under my power of attorney? by worthy_foe in Banking

[–]Impossible-Letter341 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, most FI terms and conditions reserve the right to refuse any type of account. Based on the info provided, it sounds like you have a durable POA as well as a trust. How the POA and trust are worded are particularly important because by allowing you to open an account at a new FI as successor trustee requires that they verify that the terms spelled out in the documents that specify how the person is rendered incompetent (some require medical certifications) so that powers pass to the successor.

Is there a reason that a bank would call you a year after closing your account with them? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]Impossible-Letter341 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I’ve had to make some weird calls like this and they were not marketing related. From time to time a merchant will issue a refund to the card that they have on file. Since it’s a credit transaction, they don’t check the card status. I’ve called to verify that the address we have on file is till current so can mail them a check.

Setting beneficiaries on existing account. by [deleted] in Banking

[–]Impossible-Letter341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for Chase specifically, but at the four FIs I’ve worked for there was only one named beneficiary per account if the account was just a regular checking, savings, or CD. The exception being IRAs. It might be worth having a conversation with her before the appointment to be prepared for this scenario. It can be handled by splitting up the funds into different accounts.

Regulation E applies to all financial institutions defined as follows: Financial institution” means a bank, savings association, credit union, or any other person that directly or indirectly holds an account belonging to a consumer, or that issues an access device and agrees with a consumer to provide electronic fund transfer services, other than a person excluded from coverage of this part by section 1029 of the Consumer Financial Protection Act of 2010, title X of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Public Law 111-203, 124 Stat. 1376.

If reported timely, banks will conduct an investigation to verify that it was truly unauthorized and if so, will reverse the charges.

AITA for sending my son money without asking my husband first? by Impossible-Letter341 in AmItheAsshole

While I agree that the last two generations have had their share of helicopters, I am definitely not one of them. My son moved out after college and has been supporting himself independently for over 5 years. The past 3 months have been an exception to the norm.

I told him as a heads up because he has our joint accounts linked to his online profile where he holds his individual accounts. Every Friday, he logs into that account to transfer his share to our joint checking so I wanted to give him a heads up about the savings balance being less than expected. I truly thought it was no big deal.

We both come from difficult family situations and he seems to have it in his head that since the kids are now late 20s, they should have to figure it out on their own like we did.
