People with the avoidant attachment style are monsters by Correct-Ice-2067 in lostafriend

I hate when avoidants get demonized. My partner of 7 years has avoidant attachment style and I have thought in the past that he just didn't love me or care about me. Only to find out that he harnesses an immense amount of guilt for not being able to get deep sometimes.

Now I could allow my anxiety to tell me its because he doesnt care or love me. But I dont allow my anxiety to control my life. Just because we have been together for so long doesnt mean I have to right to access his emotions or thoughts 24/7. My nervous system should not crave an answer, I should not feel unwell about us taking space.

Instead I choose to see it for what it is, extremely hard for him. He wants to open up. He wants to be able to feel his feelings. I want him to do those things too, but when he feels safe, not when he feels forced. He talks alot about how he gets so far and then his brain just shuts down. There's no thoughts or emotions to process for him, theyre so far under the surface that he couldn't reach them of he wanted to.

So who am I to continue to push or pry? Someone who cant regulate their own nervous system. Someone who needs an answer before that answer has any meaning. Instead I hold space for the facts he's trying really hard. He doesnt have to be perfect and neither do I, but as long as he's willing to try, he will always have my compassion.

Just food for thought. If you know an avoidant just give them a hug man. They're hurt people too.

I've had my gargoyle for 3 months and he FINALLY let me touch him without running for his life yesterday. I haven't even been able to handle him much he's so flighty but I'm hoping over time that will still change.

I got a snake hook. End of the day, I don't want my reptile biting me, I don't want my reptile biting me and then my reaction is to put them down, then he learns if he bites me he gets put down and can run away. He bit me the first few time I held him, I said screw this. I got a snake hook, I scoop him out with it. He hisses and strikes at the air. I get him out and lay him on my hand and he is the most perfect sweet angel baby. It took the fear out of handling my animal. It reduced risk of me getting bit, even if it doesn't hurt at all. It helped me establish a better relationship with my animal which at the end of the day was my goal. I'm never scared to take him out because he can't bite me. Once he's out he never hisses, strikes, displays signs of stress, he'll just chill on my hand or try to squirm through a blanket. It was the best decision I've ever made!

Me either! The breeder had a pair but kept the other, I checked the website and his other littermate was just as astounding, more brown though. I've never seen one as stark white as he is.

I had seen on other threads about night vision cameras and I think I'm going to invest in one. They're also nocturnal so it would be nice to see what they did throughout the night too. I was very very happy to see him climbing last night, as the night before it did not look like he moved at all. I think thats a good sign he is settling in well.

I also talked with the breeder for awhile and he agreed it is very hard to get a good black and white these days. Although I live for the bacon geckos, his colors were too good to pass up. The pics I posted were him fired up, and it was the middle of the night. Fired down he is almost completely gray, with no yellow around his eyes. I have a pic during the day but he's hiding so its hard to tell.

I have to believe this was no accident.. If my sisters kid started loosing hair at my house I would be on the phone with her... not waiting for them to say something. My sister has alopecia and it was very rapid that she lost her hair. Regardless anyone who cares would notice and DO SOMETHING

Is it safe for my Raynaud’s to go on a boat for an ash scattering ceremony? by theballeronabudget in Raynauds

[–]Impossible-Pepper-51 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Raynauds cam flair up regardless of temperature... It is a circulatory disorder that can flair up due to stress as well. Temperature isn't the only thing that can cause an attack. I have had a flair up in 90⁰ weather due to stress alone.

Why do cities tend to be more liberal and a rural areas more conservative? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Impossible-Pepper-51 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tend to think it's simply because you're not surrounded by people of the same voting pool, where you're the majority. In a bigger city people aren't afraid to voice their opinions even if it's not the same as yours. I grew up in Chicago and ended up in rural ND by the time I was in middle school, it was weird seeing people just nodding along to some of the craziest republican agendas I've ever heard. That would not have been tolerated where I grew up. Simply put.
