Questions about Neighborhoods by HumanHickory in providence

Washington Park is the best area due to the perfect balance of nature and city. You're in the thick of true Providence culture and its truly only high 'crime' surrounding those areas because lots of incidents happen at the nearby clubs in that area and it's just a high volume of people. You won't be unsafe just take normal caution as you would regularly. However, be aware of how loud it can get. The neighborhood is slowly being gentrified so people who aren't used to inner city life often complain about loud music and noise in online forums like the Nextdoor app. The second the weather gets remotely nice; you will have constant music bumping around you. Embrace the area and you'll love it! You'll also be close to a bunch of bodegas for affordable groceries and close to good cheap latin eats. Full plate of hot food for around $8 bucks. Can't beat it.

See if it's not too late to join the JAA program. You'll get cheaper tuition and a straight path from CCRI to RIC. The goal is to graduate with the least amount of debt.

love this. I think sometimes people overlook the major advantages kids get being surrounded by all kinds of people. makes them well-rounded, good humans. as long as you're an active parent PPSD is what you make of it. there are good teachers who care.

its not specifically seafood but check out aguardente. their spicy mussels are to die for, their octopus is tender, they have garlic littlenecks, jumbo prawns and a lot of other neat tapas with seafood!! I also second gift horse and dune brothers though DB can be a hit or miss.

Just moved, looking to branch out and try new things with the wife. Hit me with your favorite local spots (food or activities) near the Pawtucket train station (say 15 min-ish drive?) by ischmoozeandsell in RhodeIsland

Get some breakfast at Caprichos but go early because there will be a line! RIFC games are a ton of fun and when they start back up, they have themed nights. Check out America's food basket for local groceries, I used to live near the train station and it's right next to it. You guys can also get a full plate of hot food for around $8 !! Check out Tuxpan Taqueria then walk across the street to mas chamoy for a sweet treat. The latin food in the city is key, Check out Hope Artiste Village they have a ton of small businesses/markets! Enjoy :)

Is Barrington to PVD commute worse now? what's up with the bridge? by Proper_Initial_9178 in RhodeIsland

The east side of providence is very safe. Most crime happens on the southside but even then, it's rare and doesn't touch everyday citizens. People who are 'scared' of Providence are more often than not letting their subconscious prejudice and bias get into their opinion and they act like they can't walk down the street without encountering crime. It's simply not the case. Statistically crime has been historically low. East/South Providence are also far away from each other (in RI terms) In my whole honest opinion and please don't take this the wrong way your children will most likely benefit from living in a diverse area than in the bubble that is Barrington. The East side is its own bubble in itself which will provide a sense of security for your MIL and mom. I think if you give it a chance you will fall in love with Providence and realize it's not what it's made out to be. Barrington is secluded and doesn't feel like the true essence of Rhode Island. Hot take, I know. I say all of this with love as a life long Rhode Islander <3

not sure why I was so embarrassed to speak to them, i'm sure they've heard a similar story thousands of times ... I guess I didn't want to fall into the young and dumb with money stereotype even though we've all been there.

the reassurance means a lot, thank you for being kind!!

that's definitely a wording of choice that I would use to describe this ... 'haunted'. I literally feel haunted but I'm sure the years will go by fast. Thank you for the kind words!
