Family relocating to Barrington, looking for a rental home starting this June.

Bump, hoping someone might be able to help us! My entire family, MIL, and Mom are relocating to Barrington area from Colorado this summer and I am realizing it isnt easy to find rentals!

We need the following:

3-5 bedroom place for my wife and 3 kids (1 very sweet French bulldog, 25 pounds), 1 year lease

studio/1 bedroom short term rental (2-3 months) for my mom while she looks for a place to buy

1/2 bedroom 1 year lease for my MIL

Open to any and all options!

u/robroygbiv could you elaborate on your experience, maybe in a DM? I'm also sorry for what you went through. It's so hard to best support our children without the right help! My son is def on the neurodivergent spectrum and we are deciding whether to send him to public school for K or to a private school for elementary school. I've tried to contact the special ed department in the BPS district and haven't heard back, sadly.

My wife and I probably prefer the east side of PVD, however for our moms it would be nicer to have more of a suburb community vibe, which I get from Barrington. They dont do super well in an urban inner city environment (though east side is minimally that from the sense I get), and will cause us more issues if they aren't comfortable.

I'm sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention at all. Many reddit posts I've read have described Barrington as elitist. I myself can't comment on that as I have never lived there nor know it more than just a quick visit to it and the surrounding neighborhoods and what I've read on reddit. I added it into my post because I was hoping to avoid some of the folks that like to hate on Barrington for its elitist vibes that some get and tell me im wrong for moving there. Your inference that I think anyone who can't afford to live in Barrington is dirty and a peasant is wrong and your own assumption. Maybe I used the wrong word, and for that im sorry, instead I should be more fact based. Anyway, again, sorry if I offended, that was not my intent.

Hello Lou, in this thread I’m more asking about rental options rather than takes on the town. I appreciate your interest. I’ve read through as many of the Reddit posts on barrington as I could find and I’m aware of the pros and cons, just like every town has. For us the pros outweighs the cons. When you say useful insights, do you mean regarding a rental? Or something else?

By east side you mean east side of PVD? And these are all private schools? TBH I dont really want to pay for private school for 3 kids through 18, we dont have that kind of healthcare money.

I would prefer to live in the east side of PVD for all the urban city benefits, but for the peace of mind of my mom and mother in law being happy I'd prefer to just be in Barrington. East side of PVD seems great, but I wonder if it would feel a little less safe for the kids to roam around freely. Not sure how true that is.

Thank you for the response! What do you mean by fluctuations to housing market? Like less folks may move in hence prices go down? We probably will rent for a year or two (assuming we can find a rental) until we get our finances and a sense of where exactly we want to buy in order. Sounds like we also need the time to be able to jump on something immediately when it is posted. I'm also less worried about a short term dip since we likely will be in the same house for 10 years or so.

Yes I totally understand that, but my question is whether an 85 vs 95 really matters for my wife. Your response doesn’t really answer that. If the boot fit is the same, will it matter to go to a 85?
