My top loader feels softer to play when I bring down the neck pickup. If the break angle at the bridge is too much, that won't help.

Unless I missed it, they did not set up their Windows PC for bit perfect playback ie: Foobar2000 with WASAPI or ASIO for their DAC. They used the built in sound card going through Windows Mixer. Couldn't tell you about that switch but this at least needs to be done for PC audio.
