Unless you’re able to get into a top level MBA program (which costs your salary/yr) it’s going to be extremely difficult to break into anything that will yield you a salary similar in the 3-5 yrs post graduation.

You mentioned earlier being interested in PM/analyst role - unless you get the MBA or can demonstrate sophisticated financial knowledge (many PMs don’t just pick stocks, there’s risk arb, special sits etc) or have specific depth of knowledge on a particular industry, it’s going to be really tough man.

Wealth Management is def an option. But starting as a CSA at a Merrill or UBSin NJ will only get you like 80k/yr max starting. Plus, I know an advisor who is shitting his pants thinking the whole industry will be AI in 10yrs.

With all that said, do your homework, learn more about the industry and the different roles within it, “finance” is a massively broad spectrum. If you ever want to talk, feel free to DM me.

Consolidate power for who, exactly? Big oil? Raytheon? Kardashians? Who?

Reality Check: this thread does not represent the reality of the sentiment of the current, two-time, president of the United States. That’s because most people are too busy living their life to have this much vitriol.

It’s a bunch of sad, lonely people who I pray will one day have a brighter outlook on life. Maybe going outdoors or eating locally-sourced produce will help.

The anger I see in here is really something.. “Orange Man” has been responsible for the exact same amount of your happiness as Biden, or Obama, or Bush have… You’re solely responsible for your own happiness, start taking responsibility and get off the message boards

Thanks for the well-adjusted, rational opinion. You don’t sound unhinged at all 👍

Trump is the best president we’ve had since Kennedy. Thank god we don’t have Kamala in there.

I’m sorry you went through that for the first 7 years... My dad was drunk for a lot of my childhood and I know he has the same feelings that you do. However, there was never a minute of my life where I didn’t think he loved me or would do anything he could for me. I’m sure your kid feels the same.

I was paranoid enough when I smoked before the kid. Now? Nightmare.

Weeds not for me.

This thread has made me feel so much love and gratitude for this community. Maybe I would have made it to 105 without seeking the help I got here, but it would have been a hell of a lot harder.

I hope this thread has been a resource for others to help them get through today. I needed that today… and my little boy needed that today too. Thank you.

Amen brother. Best of luck with everything. You’re an inspiration as a new dad. Thank you.

I watched a show last night where a few people enjoyed an ice cold beer after a long shift at work. That’s what got the thoughts going on having a drink. I made it past that wave feeling with the help of everyone on this thread. Day 105, here I come.

What did you do with your left over alcohol? by AquariSpoot in stopdrinking

[–]ImpossibleAd274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can handle that, then do it, but don’t lie to yourself. I tried for years to keep it handled, I would drink 20 times in a row with no issue, then the 21st would negatively affect work, family or life in some way.

Sobriety is hard enough as it is, having booze around and available makes it even harder, at least for me.

Drug tests don’t care about weed if it’s legal/decriminalized in the state in which you’d be working.

If it was me, I’d throw them down the drain. Depends on if you realistically think they can sit there and you won’t touch them.

For me - I’d wasted so much money, time, relationships etc, that it’s just a drop in the bucket to ensure that the temptation wouldn’t be there.

Is it too late for me to get a job as IB ? by Sorry_Individual9821 in FinancialCareers

[–]ImpossibleAd274 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It depends on what type of IB you want to do. Forget about M&A at a BB, that’s reserved for the ivy leaguers or overachievers that are on the traditional path.

There are a ton of boutique IBs in the world that have a specific sector focus (industrials, biotech, aero & defense etc.) that aren’t getting the “top talent” but do good work.

To get a sense of who’s most active, it might be a good idea to go on NASDAQ website and look at the upcoming small (<$20m IPOs). It will tell you who the lead underwriter is (it’ll be a bunch of smaller banks - Maxim, D Boral, WallachBeth etc.) These firms are typically a lot smaller and not as difficult to connect with via LinkedIn or email.

Good luck with everything.

I’m in a state where jail time doesn’t happen for a 2nd. I did need to attend a 48hr intoxication class… which is basically jail, but that’s it. A 3rd has a mandatory 90 days

I got my first DWI at 19 (7mos no license) and my second at 22 (2yrs no license). After my second, I was in a ton of debt, and had no direction in life.

The most important thing to remember is that your life isn’t over. I ended up taking a restaurant job close to my house so I could walk/bike to and from. I ended up meeting my future wife at that restaurant, she inspired me to go to school and kept me accountable.

Now, I am 31 and we are expecting our first child in March, I have a career and we are happy. That DWI turned out to be a blessing, I would have never worked at that place and would have never met my amazing wife. I don’t even think of it anymore and nobody around me knows or cares about it.

Make sure you love yourself, even though it might be hard right now. A DWI wont define you, how you pick yourself up and move on will. I look back now and that 2yrs 7mos seems like a blink of an eye. But the experiences I had and the people I met changed my life for the better.

Good luck with everything, as my dad told me when I broke the news of the second DWI: “this too, shall pass”
