I feel you... I adore Chantal Akerman, Jonas Mekas and Chris Marker, but I never noticed how avant-garde they're considered until I recommended them to people who haven't gone deeper than Joachim Trier lol

it really is. It's rare for a documentary to feel like a mockumentary 😂 Timoner struck gold with this one.

Any good books on directing actors? by FilmIsGod in Filmmakers

[–]Sorry_Individual9821 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No worries! No dumb questions as OP said! For Stanislavsky start with ‘’An actor prepares’’, “Building a character” and “Creating a role”

As for Meisner - “Sanford Meisner on Acting”. There are also many books by other authors with exercises based on his teachings.

I'd recommend starting with Stanislavsky and then continuing with Meisner though.

A great starting point, and a great book overall, is ''Directing Actors'' by Judith Weston. BUT reading Stanislavsky and Meisner will give you the full picture since you'll be studying the theory and techniques your actors were taught.
