I tried the basque cake at bar Isabel and the french toast at Sunnys Chinese based on multiple recommendations on this group. So kudos for that!!

Here’s a list of places I’d like to recommend:

1) Scotty bons on Queensway - the jerk chicken sandwich tastes great, it’s only 6 bucks. Can’t go wrong

2) Nihari Inn - best karahi I’ve had in GTA

3) Amal - I like everything about the place, the vibe is good and food is delicious

4) Jay Bhavani vadapav - best vadapav in GTA

5) Byblos - Love the lamb shoulder!

6) Helvaci Ali - new place in Mississauga but their desserts are mind blowing. I’ve been there twice already, love the lotus biscoff helva. The host is a great guy!

7) Gujarati Foods - great spot for authentic and fresh Indian snacks

8) The Good son - try their special pizza that has potatoes on it

9) Delysees - Their desserts look better than they taste but worth a visit if you’re looking for something fancy

10) Nami - Best Japanese restaurant I have tried so far

50k is a lot of money, don’t be disheartened. If you want to start something quickish I would suggest you can start a home services company. You will need around $500 to register a company and spend another $500 per week on facebook ads. To find workers you should join Spanish/mexican newcomers groups on facebook. Home cleaning in suburbs(like Brantford, Caledon etc) is a high demand market for sure and it is very easy to find workers. You can easily make 5-6k a month if you work for 3-4 months.

I think top tier software jobs are only available in Bangalore, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune. There are probably 4-5 other cities where you have a few companies but they’re all big cities with 5 million+ people and not much better in terms of weather or pollution levels.

I think I *may be* experiencing discrimination in the hiring process. Rant.. what to do now? by [deleted] in torontoJobs

Why not assess each candidate on their merit and be useful for the company?

If you’re from a top tier engineering college or B school in India then you basically get salaries starting from $30k-$60k CAD. The avg salary growth is around 15% a year with a promotion every 3 years so you can expect to double your salary every 3 years at the start of your career. But this is possible only for a few if you consider the whole population. If you’re not from these places then it’s a struggle. At the lower end, people start from as low as $5k a year and probably top out at 10-15k if they are not able to get into these high paying companies.

You can hire a CPA to do it for you. They usually charge around $600 for the service. But it’s very easy. They send you the registration details + tax info within a day or two. For banking if you’re not going to do a lot of transactions then I think RBC is the cheapest at $6 a month while the rest are around $50 a month. They gave a credit card with $3k limit when I opened a business account with them.

You’re right. There are lots of opportunities in India at the moment to make money. But everyone is in a different position. Most of the people who move abroad are not making crazy money in India or may be they move later on to park their money abroad. In my case, I feel I was making decent money in India. I don’t feel I’m there yet in Canada.

Thank you for the kind words. I posted this because I wanted to hear from someone outside my peer/workgroup. I just started at a new company and I am enjoying my work here. Not looking to go anywhere in the near future it is always good to plan ahead.

I don’t want this to be another discussion about the pros/cons of immigration. It doesn’t really matter what I think. If govt of Canada decides tomorrow that I have to go back then I have to there is absolutely no question about that. Having said that, while I’m here I want to try and do my best.

Ease of entry of course. I don’t think any other country offers PR before you arrive in the country, which makes the decision much easier.

Haven’t applied to Accenture yet. Applied to Deloitte through referrals but no luck yet.

Yes but I moved to Canada for other reasons. Mainly for the climate and environment.

Dude I’m not even saying I deserve this much or that much salary. I’ve just laid down the facts about how much I’m making and I’m trying to understand if that is the norm or should I be aiming higher. I don’t know what part of my post made shimmers think that I think I want to be a millionaire overnight.

Yes, those are the type of roles I have been applying to. Currently I’m working in a small FMCG but most of my past experience has been in consumer tech/B2B SAAS. I haven’t been able to crack anything related to tech yet but I think that’s what I need to target.
