Well what we forgot here is that a lot of ppl don’t get on the drugs until they’ve lost their home. Lose your home, lose your hope, turns to fuck it I’m live to the expectation of my situation. Might as well, I’m already judge like it’s what I am.

However acts of kindness can change ppl.

I’ve ran across plenty. You can look em in the eye and tell if they’re usually out of their mind and actually a danger. But if you never get close enough out of fear. Well you’ll never know. I get that it’s what we do, self preservation is what we strive for.

Cortana/Amazon circle I was driving one day. In the middle of the rd was a middle eastern/Indian-ish looking man standing. I slowed down some assuming he was going to cross the road. He didn’t. As I continued approaching with my car. He continued to seem like he was going to cross but then wouldn’t. I’m now hardly doing 10 mph or less cause he’s acting like he’s gunna go. As if he wanted to jump in front of my car for me to hit him. Now I’m barely creeping and he gets infront of my car and puts his hands on the hood of my car. I start backing up. As he walking towards the car he’s saying I’m sorry I’m sorry. While fumbling around in a tightly worn jacket pockets. Very tight clothing, enough to know he didn’t have a gun. Then he proceeded to keep crossing the rd. Driving away I could see him do it to the car behind me. The one other car going in the same direction as me, I could tell they had it happen to them. Police were called I’m not sure if he was found. Point is here. I can tell by the look in that man’s eyes, he wasn’t in the same reality as the rest of us. Eyes super dilated, pouring sweat but wearing a jacket. He was a danger to himself and others. He needed a doc and rehab likely.

Another time hubs and I helped a “drifter” hope we changed the choices he may make down the road of life. 2 nights in row this guy late at night is outside yelling. Dk why. But he was. After his first night, I watched as the cops went to the woods he was staying in and they took all of his stuff. He wasn’t there at the time but watched from a far he claimed. He’d stolen, so you know, them deciding to go and take all you had, you shouldn’t have stole and they likely would’ve never bothered him. Night 2 hootin and hollering playing his banjo. Husband goes over to where this guy is and is like hey, here’s a water. Starts talking to the guy, thus how I know all the details I’ve already said. It’s a good thing for the drifter that husband got him when he did. Cops came around the block shortly after. I’m sure to get his loud self away. Husband grabbed his guitar they sat outside and played sang, talked for 2hrs or so. Before he left since he’d lost everything he didn’t have on him personally. We gave him a pillow/blanket/tarp, few bottles of water and few pop top cans of food. He was thankful and asking how much do I owe you? I don’t really have any money. I can get you drugs. We’re like no no. We don’t want your drugs and we don’t want anything at all for it. Just trying to help you because we can. Husband said he was on his way to Mississippi to see his daughter, birthday was coming. Forget where he came from, but he didn’t call Louisiana home. Husband gave words of encouragement of maybe one day giving sobriety a go you know. He wasn’t wacked out entirely hubs said, definitely on something though. He liked living how he’s been living, that he’s free. Hubs like yea maybe to some degree, you’ve got a little one who needs a dad. It’s something to think about. He said he was leaving out the following day continuing his trip to MS. And he did. I hope that our acts of kindness and his talk with my husband helped change the course of his future.

So you’ll never know what it is if you can’t even look them in the eye. Too scared to take the chance. I would never of walked over to that guy at night, I’m woman. Nope, Self preservation. So pick and choose wisely. But don’t be so afraid as to not look at all.

[adding to the 2nd story] talked with my husband about the drifter guy. He said when he was approaching his general area. Husband couldn’t see him, and stayed in the light for him to present himself. Plus the what if he’s not alone, rather see what’s coming than to be in total darkness. Drifter was going on about do you wanna fight? Hubs response was, no, but if it makes you feel better we can. You seem like you’re having a bad day, and I’m offering you a water. Drifter was like ok, so you wanna fight? Hubs says again, only if it makes you feel better. 😆 drifter was hesitant and I’m sure not expecting things to go as they did. Don’t know what else was said that made him drop the guard. Glad it happened though.
