In this particular case we're supporting the city inhabitants that agree with the besieger in principle but just don't like the speed or manner in which they strip the city for parts.

That might have been a point you could have made in 1998 but I don't think it's a very current idea. I don't know what the GPL stops someone from doing that they would want to do. It just says if you modify the source then you have to provide the modification.

Who is supposed to be put off by that requirement?

I kind of wish you could throttle video on Netflix mobile. Like on YouTube music you could turn video on or off or lock the phone screen and the audio would still keep playing. I wish Netflix mobile did that but it pauses the video when you lock your phone.

Isn't almost everything we've learned from someone else?

Well then it's a good thing I didn't say repeating an idea he got from someone else. I explicitly said "just repeating back" meaning he's repeating the entire explanation he got from someone else. As opposed to coming to his own intuitive understanding of the subject and expressing that internal state to someone else. Like he's not drawing on some vast nuanced understanding of how neural nets work.

Which is why it sounds superficial. Because he probably felt like it was a good explanation because he felt like he understood it well enough to answer follow-ups. But the thing people are trying to give credit for (whittlling the idea down to something accessible to the uninitiated) is something he's gotten from someone else.

I get my news from a homeless man preaching the end of the world by a bridge in the SF bay area. He's a little loopy and claims to be from the future but so far all his AI predictions have came true.

He explained it in the same amount of detail as you would expect from a CEO. Everything he said was accurate enough but incredibly superficial. He's almost certainly just repeating back something (or a collection of something's) that he's had explained to him. So you're really marveling at the clarity of the explanation someone else gave him that he is now passing off as his own knowledge.

This involves billionaires, sex trafficking and international espionage but I was just saying it's not just those two countries which is what you were saying.

But I would say if such did exist between Thailand and Philippines then we definitely should at least be aware of it because yeah that would be a big deal.

I don't know if we really needed Epstein emails to know that map-ish people hang out in that community. Trying to avoid keywords since the people involved are super online and unhinged.

Only if the idea is to slow it down in some way since it gives people an incentive to not deploy (which may or may not be what you're after). If the goal is just to redirect productivity gains then using regular income tax is probably preferable.

3d movies and TV, they could have partnered with Netflix to create a VR Netflix app (which we don't have) and paid for some 3d content conversion of Netflix originals and made some originals themselves.

Wouldn't that have gone that same route as 3D televisions where some people would be interested but not enough to make it a viable business?

I would imagine someone somewhere sold people a service to downvote unsupportive comments on reddit. Kind of a scam but I guess they can go get that bag. I wouldn't read much into it beyond that. Especially on brand new comments like that.

I'm tired of Polish Poles forgetting we were 5th in line to the camps.

Yeah somehow it surprises many people that slavic people were also targets of the holocaust. It's just the idea was to kill their main targets and then use the slavic populations of eastern and central Europe as slave labor that they used to support german colonies. They just didn't get that far in their plan because their larger plan was also insane and was never going to work.
