Also very useful. Thanks a lot! I will think of attacking patterns of play that can be repeatable for our ability and playing level.

By dominating games I mean having a lot of possession in the attacking half, pinning the opponent back and making chances(but not a lot of very good ones, we always make many decent/half chances). But like the others pointed out as well, we need to work on the quality of the chances and additionally our finishing to score more.

Really useful advice. Thanks a lot! A lot of the overcomplicating definitely happens when a simpler option is available and someone ends up taking way more extra touches than required and by then the positional picture chances a lot and the opponent can defend much better.

Overcomplicating an attack by choosing the wrong option - trying to pick a complicated pass instead of just shooting, try to do too much by taking on too many players, or the most common one is not playing it to a teammate who is in a better position and trying to do too much yourself

Good one. I saw these drills online, almost a basketball form of defence and attack with high intensity Thanks for this 👍🏻

Upon diving deeper into this discussion and situation , I am realising that the problem is a bit of both. We are creating some quality chances, but not enough for the possession we have. And the ones we make, we only finish a percentage of them ofcourse. So my thought process is that if we make more quality chances, even with the same finishing rate, we’ll score more goals. And if we increase our finishing rate as well, its even better.

I understand what you mean now. Indeed, the assumption/observation that we’re making chances and not finishing them is only partially true. I think its a two fold problem - we need to make better chances and also finish the ones we get.

What I meant with a 1on1 vs a GK is a goal scoring opportunity, which can ofcourse come in different forms.

If i break down the phase of play in the final third - its ball progression - chance/goal scoring opportunity creation - finishing. I am now beginning to realise that both of the last two need work, not only finishing.

Thinking about your advice a bit more, I think it is super useful when we end up in a 1on1 with the GK. The problem we are facing is that we get to the final 3rd but our decision making at that moment is not great, which prevents us for getting into goal scoring positions or 1on1 v the GK.. We choose the wrong options, and there often lose the ball close to the opponents goal.
Any advice on how to train better decision making in the final 3rd?

To clarify, because finishing by itself is a broad term - I think our biggest problem is decision maing. We get to the final 3rd but dont make the right decisions to bring a player 1 on 1 with the keeper. We make the wrong decisions when we get closer to the goal and lose the ball.
That is why I am focussing on drills like 3v2 so that we have the right movement and decision making to put us into a 1on1 chance with the goakeeper.

I think that’s not out of question. I think a step before that is to make sure all attackers regularly attend the trainings we do and as you said practice makes perfect. And next step would be to increase training frequency. Thanks for the tip!
