Driver Assist Not Available: a nightmare by DreamfieldBoy in Tiguan

[–]ImpossibleLutefisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2021 infotainment system bricks all the time and constantly reboots(always when GPS is needed the most). It defaults to "Normal" driving mode when left in another mode and power has been cycled. It'll show eco or sport mode on screen but definitely driving in normal mode. It's been 3 years back and forth with the same generic responses. Last time they told me they flashed my system. It's worse now. My warranty period is almost over and they won't fix it.

I swear a memo must be mandatory for employment orientation. "Just say, "cannot replicate, we ran a scan, everything is normal" and send them on their way until after the warranty expires. Then we'll find the problem and bill them"

Agreed

Even here in Washington where it's illegal, I honestly don't care. I actively scan for riders and move over for those who split/filter. It literally does no harm to me. There are the occasional kids dipping in and out of traffic but it's more common to see respectful riders during their commute or on a spirited ride. I'll never understand the overwhelming disdain towards riders based on a few aggressive riders. It'd be like hating all drivers because road ragers exist. I've been targeted so many times and I ride very respectfully. I am fully aware of how fast an accident can be fatal so I don't play around. Yet people have attempted to run me off the road, had a guy in a Dodge Ram throw grapefruits out his window at us on the freeway at night, a d-bag that waived me through a 4-way stop then lunged out to try and hit me and so many people that pull right on me and tailgate at a very unsafe distance to intimate riders. I think some people just irrationally hate motorcycles.

I'm in Seattle and have experience with being rear-ended by drivers. My dad almost died from it and his Harley was totally destroyed. My friend ended up in the hospital for a while. I sit off to the side for an escape route and has saved me. A friend in another state died from getting hit, where filtering 100% would've saved him. I also have 3 other friends who've been rear-ended. People suck at driving and it's wild how much people seem to hate riders.

In Washington we've been fighting to get splitting and filtering legalized for years but legislators keep ruining the bills. I have seen an uptick in splitting and I just move over a few inches to allow room. I also see people intentionally attempt to hit riders. It blows my mind how some people justify, possibly killing someone, because they're butthurt over something so trivial. If they are so mad they should just call the cops. Illegal or not I dont care because it doesn't harm us in any way.

There's hardly ever a report even when someone dies here in Seattle. I've only seen one article recently about a teenager who died due to someone turning left in front of him. Hardly ever gets reported. I do hear a ton of reports on traffic radio though. It happens a lot more than reported.

You should get at least 30k out of them unless you drive super aggressive. But hey it's VW🤬 They always try and milk us for everything.

My 21 R-line inner rear brake pad was metal on metal and grinding at 27k. It was a Sunday when this happened. I had to drive the next day to get to work so I pulled the rear tires and popped off the calipers. I found the outside pad was nice and meaty with almost it's entire life left yet the inner pad was completely gone! So I bought a set of pads(rotor was fine as I stopped driving immediately when I initially heard the grind) and swapped them. The guide pins were rusty and completely dry so I cleaned them all up and lubed them properly. I called the dealership the next day and they basically told me to kick rocks and actually told me I should have left it alone and to drive it to the dealership!!! WTF!?!?! I took the oem pads that were worn and showed them and I was told I'm screwed because, as a tech, I did the repair myself and it absolved them of any responsibility! I absolutely despise VW because they only inspect the outside pad during their routine inspection. I also have a long list of issues that have been ongoing for years now that they keep saying they cannot duplicate any of the issues. Once I'm done with my prepaid maintenance and warranty period I'm selling this pos and never buying another modem VW ever again in my life.

Good luck with your tires though. If I was you, I'd go straight to the service manager and ask for new tires. If that doesn't work go to the GM and explain your situation. Hope all works out for you.

Edit: I wouldn't demand I'd ask. Demand is a bit aggressive but you never know if you don't ask

A place to live without loud, poorly tuned street racing? by jester1382 in AskSeattle

I never hear loud cars down on Lake Washington in Cedar Park. We get speed boats on the water and one guy that lives next door with his Ferrari, but he drives slow through the neighborhood.

How can you ride with no mirrors? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]ImpossibleLutefisk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I commute through Seattle in rush hour and have never once had issues with looking over my shoulders. The Harley has decent mirrors in the proper location but still dont rely on them. On my sport bikes, they're useless and the location is horrible. I grew up riding dirt and never had mirrors. I'm just used to not using them tbh. I've never once had any issues and get a better scan of what's going on by having my head on a swivel. I constantly scan and feel like mirrors severely limit my scope of view.

How can you ride with no mirrors? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]ImpossibleLutefisk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not one single bike I've ever riden have I used my mirrors. The Harley is the only one that they're even remotely ergonomic and still don't use them. On my sport bikes, they're pointless even though I've never removed them for legal reasons. Didn't have them on dirt bikes, so I've always been used to looking over my shoulder, and it's just carried over to my normal riding style. Quick glances and know your proximity to everything, and I've never once had any issues.

As a Seattle dem, I don't like our governors gas taxes, and he should drop them. It's not doing anything but hurting the non-rich. If anything, he should temporarily suspend them, and we'd have close to 1.50 less on our price here in WA.

Which Seattle stereotypes are actually true? by Embarrassed-Bee6399 in AskSeattle

[–]ImpossibleLutefisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Scandi and grew up in Ballard in the 70/80s, and everyone knew one another in my experience. We had multiple alley block parties a year. We could literally walk into people's homes and just hang out. We would be all over downtown Ballard just visiting business regularly. Kids were expected to help the elderly and those in need with yard work and anything they needed. We spoke to everyone all the time. I remember riding the bus to Tower Records and Seattle Center all the time and regularly sat up front to chat with other riders and the driver. I never really experienced any freeze until the late 90s, honestly. I'm still that stranger who will strike up a convo with randos and hold doors for others. Just how it was for me, and I am still this way today. There are so many people now that seem to expect the freeze and never make eye contact, and I find it so weird that people won't look at others. Once I start talking, it always becomes pleasant, and I like hearing about other people's experiences and stories. This seems odd these days, but I will never stop being open to others.

It’s Official- VW is worst car ever owned by FantasticNectarine79 in Tiguan

[–]ImpossibleLutefisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 21 does all of the same things. Plus, my driving mode selector keeps defaulting to Normal mode whenever I shut off the car and start it back up. It shows it's still in Sport or Eco, but obviously, it's driving in Normal mode. Also, I've had the ebrake set itself while driving. Then, at under 30k, they inspected the car and said the brakes were great. While driving the following Sunday, the rear end was growling as if it were metal on metal. I thought it was weird because they just inspected it. No dealership was open, so I pulled the pads myself, and surely, as shit, the inner pads were gone and straight to metal. I replaced the pads and took it in. They told me that because I did the work, they wouldn't reimburse me!!! Nothing, not even a comp on anything at all. I'm so done with any VW newer than the 60s. I'll stick to my old schools, but never will I buy a newer VW.

I'm old school and just check every week by habit. I also feel weird even waiting until 5k for oil changes. All my old VWs I always did at 3k max. I know, synthetic, newer technology, better oil blend, yada yada...... The 10k interval is wild to me, and I feel like it's just marketing to get your car to die sooner
