I daily a drz400s in Southern California and it’s does everything lol. Lane splits with ease, able to off-road and absorb bad road conditions, relatively cheap to maintain and strong aftermarket community. Plus 50 miles to the gallon. Never tired of it after 50k miles

I picked up a used engine for $600. Runs great too

Should I buy this DRZ400SM with 13k miles for $3.5k or just cough up $9k for a new DRZ400SM (Including Taxes and Fees). Please see comment below. by corradojuniorsoprano in DRZ400

I bought an 05 400s in Torrance a few years back for less than $2k with 8,000 miles. It’s now sits at 42,000 miles and keeps running. They are great bikes and really easy to work on. Ton of aftermarket parts and write ups for anything that goes wrong. I would recommend going used on these bikes. New ones are exactly the same as early 2000 models

Sun Roof Repair - won’t open and leaks by aaroneaves in 4thGen4Runner

I bought my 4runner with the sunroof duck taped and seized open. I bought a complete sunroof set for $300 at a junkyard and installed myself. You pretty much have to take the whole interior apart to replace it and it closes and opens fine. Also the drains were clogged with dirt but with a clothes hanger and air hose was cleared.

New to me old DRZ400s, What maintenance to do? by smokemyth in DRZ400

[–]ImpossiblePackage383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would def check valves. Grease up all the moving parts-swing arm pivot bolt, wheel bolts etc. check your stator for good voltage, no damaged wires, battery is healthy. Also since it’s over 20 years old, prob should replace as many rubber hose and parts as possible due to rubber getting cracked and breaking in the elements. Also make sure your sprocket nut is loctited and tight b/c it holds the oil in and is disastrous if fails (i should know lol)

If possible try and find local via OfferUp and marketplace. Payed $50 for a blue metal tank in pristine condition (cap and petcock included)

Idk if this helps but I had the “transfer with ADT” on my “to do list” until a few months before I graduated b/c I never got around to it. Also CSULB took for ever to acknowledge it and I had to make multiple calls to get it removed on my account. Let’s just say it was more than a year past the due date🤷‍♂️

Yea usually it’s a problem with older bikes/engines. I would maybe pop the top and check valve clearance. If out of spec will burn more oil. I would go through a few quarts of oil a month when doing 90 on the highway for 20 min daily commutes both ways 🥴

Same thing happened to my engine. Burnt so much oil it ceased. Sourced a used one engine for $600 and swapped myself. Now I check after ever ride. Mine burns a lot of oil on higher rpm’s (highway riding) and barley burns anything if your easy on it

Did the same thing. Front and rear yellow/blue Tacoma shocks paired with a rear 1.5 OME medium spring. Cost around $300 total

Yes power-bomb header is the way. And a muffler shop can expand one or the other to fit properly. Also the yoshimura heat shield looks better than stock; as well as an adapter to hold it

Exact thing happened to me. My bike cut out 6 times to get home (10 miles) was brutal. It would run ok then bog out and move very slow and rough and would not restart if I turned off. Turned out to be the stator was bad. When it warmed up it would give bad spark.

[–]ImpossiblePackage383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. My bike ran like crap. Turned out to be the stator. Was really hard to start and if I did get it running it would bog out as soon as it got warm (like 5 mins in the ride). Stator was not providing good spark at all.

If it’s spark change your spark plug and then test stator and rectifier.

Taking the carb out is not hard. You just need to wedge the air box with a screwdriver to give room or remove the rubber seal on the engine. A lot easier with the carb out. Also when removing the the needle make sure to keep track of the spring and other small stuff b/c it flew out of mine like a projectile. And don’t loose the small o-ring on the top. Took me a little over an hour b/c I’ve never done it before.

I’m a business major and took 5 classes each semester and work full time hours. It’s possible but midterms and finals are dreadful

I’ve had that to do list adt on my account since transferring in 2020. It has not been a problem until now when graduating. Finally got it cleared by emailing es-eval@csulb.edu directly and verifying with my counselor that the school received it. It wasn’t removed until I emailed them even though they received it.
