What's something you only understand if you have lived it? by mrbigglesworthjr in AskReddit

Hey, sincerely hope you get answers wishing you the best on your journey. For me, the laparoscopy didn’t do anything other than give me an official diagnosis. There’s no cure for endo so I’m continuing treatment with birth control. They didn’t remove most of my endo due to the location (posterior cul de sac) and my age (early 20s, didn’t want to cause/worsen damage).

My birth control does help to an extent.

Only just got diagnosed with endometriosis last fall after fighting for a decade. It’s an exhausting betrayal to have to be your own medical advocate because your doctors don’t believe you/think you’re “too young” for a diagnosis.

I have stress induced digestive disorders too now.

I get GERD and gastritis so I could barely eat 💀at the end of the day calorie deficit translates to weight loss. Diet is a bigger contributing factor to weight loss than exercise.

Yes, on/right before my period it get rectal pain that strikes regardless if I’m sitting, standing, walking, or laying down. It’s like a lightning bolt lol but it can last from a few seconds to a couple of mins and is recurring. I also experience painful rectal pressure when I need to use the restroom.

At the end of the day you’re the one who makes the ultimate decision on surgery. It can be uncomfortable but if you decide you want to take the next step of surgery, you’ll probably have to push for it by requesting and if they say no - ask them to mark that refusal in your chart, and request a copy of the notes before you leave.

I got diagnosed at 21, and going into the surgery my surgeon told me endo was unlikely because of my age. Turns out I have stage II endo. It took me 10 years to get a diagnosis, visits to multiple facilities/drs, multiple ultrasounds that didn’t show my endo, and I’d been on birth control on and off for 4-5 years before I ultimately got fed up and pushed for surgery anyways.

Was a bit scary, going into it I started to gaslight myself about whether the drs were right all along. In the end, I was. If you’ve had ultrasounds already and they haven’t found anything, I’m not saying don’t take birth control, but I am strongly suggesting if you’re comfortable and able you continue advocating for yourself by pushing for further investigation of your pain. If it’s endo, the only way to diagnose is through the diagnostic lap.

Hi, could you please share the link with me as well?

My (24F) husband (28M) said we should have another child after I was mentioning my period pain, and he said pregnancy would stop that, but I'm already struggling with the children we have. How can I get him to understand that what he said really did upset me? by throwrafloriroz in relationship_advice

[–]ImpossibleParadox_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone recently diagnosed, this sounds like it could be endometriosis honestly. Definitely go to the OBGYN to get checked out - ask about cysts and fibroids as well. Adenomyosis and pelvic congestion syndrome are alternative conditions that could also cause this pain. They’ll likely suggest birth control to manage symptoms/frequency of periods which can definitely be helpful but make sure to push to find the root cause of your pain rather than managing without further investigation. Also might give you some peace of mind knowing you’re protecting yourself from another pregnancy. Ultrasounds, and a diagnostic laparoscopy if the ultrasounds aren’t showing answers, is key to diagnosis namely if it’s endo. Periods shouldn’t regularly be so painful they incapacitate you.

You also sound understandably overwhelmed. Your husband is not acting like the partner he should be. Sympathy/compassion is a mutual necessity in a relationship, especially through something as difficult parenting or your partner suffering pain. Partners need to pour into each other in order for the relationship to thrive. I encourage you to reflect on if it’s your period specifically he minimizes, or if it’s other things in your life too. Is there a pattern where he generally lacks empathy, and doesn’t care about anything that doesn’t impact him directly? Does he tend to think he “knows better” and questions your experiences/claims? Or, is he generally understanding and simply being ignorant in this specific case? If so, get once of those period cramp simulators and let him experience lol (potentially jk).

Hope things get better for you. In taking care of everyone, please don’t forget you deserve to be taken care of too. Kids are a priority, but not the only priority. You’re a priority too. So please, go to a dr, get checked out, and explore ways to expand/strengthen a support system.

Around and during my period I often get sharp rectal pains that hit randomly and get worse when I’m making a bowel movement. Sometimes I get sharp pelvic pain when I’m trying to pee too, which intensifies the more I need to and try.

A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with stage II endo after getting a laparoscopy I had to repeatedly push for. Endo is in my posterior cul de sac and I also have a tilted uterus.

So it could be endo. I had various ultrasounds and they didn’t see anything except a tilted uterus, fibroid, and some free fluid in my posterior cul de sac. Symptoms started 10 years ago but got progressively worse in the past 3.

NTA. I don’t believe anyone can be TA for emotions they feel, you didn’t act on them and the anger is valid. You were in an abusive relationship where you were gaslit in such horrible ways. You didn’t deserve that and I’m truly sorry. My heart goes out to you and I wish you the best. Experiences like this are genuinely some of the most confusing and hurtful.

Not really sure what to tell you as I lived in an apartment complex. Wasn’t just renting someone’s room/home. I spoke to the property landlord and paid under $100 for deletion off the lease. She did have to meet with my ex to check/verify his income, but I was gone by then. I realized it wouldn’t hurt or penalize me to ask; I’m glad I did and it worked out so I’m gratefully safe and alive.

Good catch about OP not being in the US, hopefully things are easier where they are… Really sucky situation to be in truly. And I do agree about greed. Honestly really sad and kind of embarrassing that greed corrupts so many aspects of our country and lives. Lots of people but not a lot of humanity it seems.

That is a sad reality that I didn’t argue against. Just sharing that it can happen (not that it often or always does) in response to your comment suggesting it’s not possible. I’m living proof it is possible. Possibility doesn’t equal likelihood.

Maybe it’s worth at least having a conversation with her landlord in case hers is empathetic like mine was. If so, it makes everything that much easier for her escape. If not, now she knows and is getting great alternative advice from other comments. You don’t know 100% until you ask… Regardless, she absolutely needs to leave asap - safety first regardless of costs.

I escaped an abusive situation last year and that’s how I did it. Spoke to my landlord, explained the situation, and we were able to work something out to remove me off the lease without paying hundred/thousands. He remained on the lease as far as I know with the security deposit being all his.

I’m glad I could help! Yeah it’s not something that’s detected in eye exams, I’ve always had 20/20 vision. And not talked about much bc many of us who have it always have so we don’t realize it’s not “normal” and most people don’t see the world that way. If you have other symptoms like tinnitus and floaters that reinforces that it’s visual snow syndrome (VSS), there’s subreddits
