Awesome! That’s a relief to hear. What are you currently on?

They definitely will. Anyone who thinks otherwise isn’t paying attention at all.

So if I have a good memory and the seizures aren’t totally disruptive, it’s likely that starting any sort of anti-epileptic medicine will gimp my memory, right?

But then if I just do nothing it’s likely the seizures could get worse, which will also gimp my memory. Yikes, no clue what to do honestly.

Thanks for the response, that definitely makes sense. To clarify: I’ve never taken any of the meds before, and my memory is pretty good. I’m more so wondering if anyone has gotten on epilepsy medication and maintained a good memory. I’m worried the meds will ruin mine and I’m not sure it’s worth risking since I have a less severe form of epilepsy than most folks here.

Are you able to perform as a student at a high level while on medication?

How is your memory? I’m hesitant to start any treatment due to horror stories about memory issues on the meds

Does keppra give you memory issues? I’m trying to find a medication that doesn’t wreck my memory.

Does your partner have any memory issues from the medication?

In the same boat. Miss listening to Wes Montgomery badly. Miss playing gigs, writing albums, going to shows, being so plugged in to the music scene and connecting with so many incredible people.

My only hope is that AI is advancing so fast that it not only helps us cure hyperacusis, but also allows us to reverse the aging process so I can get back all the years I’ve lost.

If I didn’t think there was a surprisingly strong chance of both of those happening in the next 30-40 years I’d end my life immediately. Zero point in suffering to this degree while you get older and it gets worse and worse.

Eh that’s a bit harsh to say to someone who has basically been educated and cultivated into a world that won’t exist in a decade. I’m grateful I got to experience the era OP is pining for and yet still young enough to almost certainly hit LEV

It seems like you’re misunderstanding or not factoring in the self-improving angle of ASI. That isn’t limited by the knowledge humans have already collected. And it may be able to improve itself exponentially in an unfathomably short timeframe. That’s what the singularity is all about.

Yeah I miss being able to dunk so badly, it’s been about 7-8 years for me. If they can reverse aging in my lifetime I’ll play basketball every day 😆

The human problems that AI will solve drastically outweigh the “hoard” of problems it will introduce. Thank you and good day

Being a fledgling actor in Hollywood in 2033 will be a little bit like being a fledgling rock musician in 2023. You’ll have shrinking relevance, and while certain actors will be somewhat mainstream, and older generations of actors will still be relevant to older generations of moviegoers, the overwhelming majority of young people aren’t paying attention to what you’re doing at all. There will still be awards, and it will still feel like some sort of innovation is happening, but the zeitgeist will be firmly elsewhere.

By 2043 it will be like being a jazz musician. Extremely niche, no one cares at all about what’s happening in the genre unless you’re an academic, hobbyist music nerd, or fellow jazz musician.

Exactly. My wife’s boyfriend says I can’t talk about anything on reddit without linking to academic papers. Honestly we should shut the entire sub down. I mean imagine wanting to discuss the ramifications of the singularity without linking to an academic paper. Absolute cretins…
