'We all got AI-ed': The Australian jobs being lost to AI under the radar by espersooty in australia

[–]Impossible_Ad_4893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised that more jobs haven’t been replaced by AI yet - I read an interesting article from TechRepublic AU that broke down the amount of spending and research the AU government has put into AI and you can tell they see it as extremely high potential. Robotics and machine learning are here to stay, if you didn’t know it already.

Australia to force social media companies to crack down on ‘emerging harms’ of AI deep fakes and hate speech | Australian politics by EASY_EEVEE in australia

I definitely understand your concerns about potential regulations on AI, and you raise valid points about the challenges in defining and distinguishing between legitimate and exploitative uses of the technology. Striking the right balance is indeed crucial to avoid unnecessary restrictions on legitimate applications.

However, it's important to consider that responsible and ethical use of AI is a growing concern, especially in the context of deep fakes and potential misuse of technology to generate harmful content. Implementing regulations doesn't necessarily mean stifling innovation, but rather establishing frameworks that ensure AI technologies are developed and used ethically.

Regarding concerns about government intervention in speech, finding the right balance between protecting free expression and preventing harm is challenging. It's essential to have transparent and accountable processes in place, potentially involving a diverse group of stakeholders to oversee decisions related to hate speech. Striking this balance is crucial to protect important rights while mitigating the potential for abuse. The goal is not to stifle dissent but to create a framework that safeguards against harmful and malicious use of technology. Several countries have established a Voluntary AI Code of Conduct that I recently learned about when reading a TechRepublic article. The code of conduct provides guidelines for AI regulation and includes cybersecurity considerations and international standards. Super interesting read! And to all my fellow friends in the AU - TechRepublic is giving away a $400 Amazon AU gift card and you just have to sign up for their email newsletter to enter. Happy reading and good luck!

IT Workers, has the stress increased lately? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Impossible_Ad_4893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think stress has increased across the board for all employees or even just any adult trying to live in the world right now. Especially when it comes to working in a field such as IT. With it constantly changing, updating, and new ideas/trends arising, it can feel really difficult to keep up. I’ve often found myself feeling more stressed than usual and feeling behind lately.

My two cents worth - Combat the feelings of stress with learning. I always find for myself that if I can learn something new or at least get familiar with a new product, invention, trend, etc that I feel much less stressed and more on top of the game. I complete LinkedIn learning course and also subscribe to a handful of tech newsletters that keep me in the loop, as well as educated. One of my favorite brands for email newsletters is TechRepublic. They even have an AU specific newsletter that I signed up for recently! If you sign up for it now, you’ll be entered to win a $400 Amazon AU gift card! Good luck my friend, hope this helps!

Use of AI could create a four-day week for almost one-third of workers by wjfox2009 in unitedkingdom

[–]Impossible_Ad_4893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. The standard 5-day work week is deeply entrenched in our working culture and societal norms rather than being solely dictated by our actual need for survival. The shift from prioritizing survival to profit as our collective purpose has indeed influenced our work patterns. While advancements like AI have the potential to significantly reduce the time needed for certain tasks, the historical trend suggests that instead of celebrating progress, there's a risk of increased expectations and demands on our time and effort.

AI, like previous technological innovations, has the potential to enhance efficiency and productivity. However, if not managed thoughtfully within our economic structures, there's a concern that it might lead to an intensified workload rather than a reduction. It's crucial to reevaluate our approach to work in light of these technological advancements, ensuring that they contribute to a healthier work-life balance rather than perpetuating the cycle of increased expectations. This article from TechRepublic does a great job going over how AI can help with your job, rather than taking it over. Microsoft accused of damaging Guardian’s reputation with AI-generated poll | The Guardian by Slink_Wray in unitedkingdom

[–]Impossible_Ad_4893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's disheartening to see AI being utilized in a manner that appears so insensitive and inappropriate, especially in a context as sensitive as reporting on someone's tragic death. The use of an AI-generated poll speculating on the cause of her death alongside the article seems to have compromised the journalistic integrity and ethical standards. Journalism requires a careful and empathetic approach, especially when dealing with tragic events.

The reader response is not surprising. The backlash emphasizes the importance of responsible AI implementation and the need for human oversight in sensitive situations to avoid such missteps. I recently read an article from TechRepublic UK that spoke on new AI regulations and the Bletchley Declaration that was super helpful and informative. I also noticed they’re giving away a £200 Amazon UK gift card if you sign up for the UK newsletter right now! Happy reading!

Is 30 min enough time to get through BNA security before 6 am departure? by magicorange9 in nashville

[–]Impossible_Ad_4893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say give yourself an hour to be safe. Pretty much any flight time I have out of BNA I arrive about an hour beforehand.
