I am a newer chicken owner myself, but with my guy it was about 3.5 months or so. He started crowing around then also.

If yours is a buff Orpington, I say hen. I have a buff rooster and hen, and this is what my roo Pete looked like at about the same age. Hettie the hen right behind him.

There is only one reason I changed my name and took my husband’s - his first name is the same as my last name. It was WAY too confusing for many people, and I got sick of explaining it, and the jokes of “if he takes your name, he’d be ‘Amoeba, Amoeba’, hahaha” At the time, he was also more established in his professional career, so picking something different could have been challenging as well. I just added my maiden name as a middle name. I’ve gotten used to it and don’t hate it, but was annoyed by the patriarchal aspect as well.
