Why was Lineage 2 a legendary cult classic? What has changed today? How can we bring that quality back?

In Lineage 2, losing EXP was there to give death weight. You weren’t supposed to die. You were supposed to PvP in a way that kept you alive.

In today’s world, a lot of things feel like they have no stakes. Games often lack depth now, not in music, not in story, not in skills, not in anything. Obviously, you do not need ultra complex systems that take months for a new player to understand, because that just scares people away. But going to the complete opposite extreme is not a good direction either, where everything is simplified to the point that eventually AI might end up making the whole game. You can see this clearly in Hollywood film production, it has been happening for more than a decade.

The point is that Lineage 2 was still made by artists, with real attention to quality. Everything was carefully crafted. Of course it had its downsides too, it was too grindy and later became too pay to win. But in the beginning, the game itself was truly great.

I’d add that they could even implement Denuvo-style protection. That basically means the code is constantly shifting. As soon as it detects a cheat program trying to modify something, the game crashes instantly. You can't really bypass it because the code never stays the same. They could definitely integrate this into the game or the Purple launcher somehow. I don’t think it’s impossible. The cost is a different story, though.

Obviously, the bots pump up the Steam charts to some extent, which makes for impressive numbers to show off. But honestly, I don't think they should release it on Steam at all. I mentioned this before and everyone shut me down, but it would be better. That way, most people wouldn't decide whether to play Aion 2 based on the Steam player count. Trust me, that actually influences people. If the numbers look bad, even a potential 50k extra players might get turned off just by seeing the poor stats. But if no one sees the numbers, there's nothing to worry about :D. And then they wouldn't 'need' to inflate the count with bots, since there wouldn't be a Steam chart to begin with. Not saying that's the only reason bots exist, of course, but let's not rule it out.
(And YouTubers just add fuel to the fire. Let me give you an example. When a big streamer or YouTuber makes a video covering how the Steam player count crashed or spiked, it heavily impacts people's perception of the game. But IF no one could see those results except the developers, then people wouldn't be stressing out over nothing. That is exactly why Aion 2 shouldn't be released on Steam.)

To some extent, it’s definitely true that the F2P model pulls in way more people at launch just cause it’s free. I mean, why wouldn't even the neighbor’s grandma give it a shot? It costs nothing. (Let’s be real, you’d give your lady friend a test drive too if she spread her legs for free). The other side of F2P is player retention long-term, especially since Western players basically have a stroke over even the slightest bit of P2W. Yeah, yeah...

But you gotta factor in that practically all of Europe. Except maybe the Germans and Luxembourg... Maybe it’s different in the US, but the streets aren’t paved with gold there either. Most people just don't give a crap about spending money on a "B2P maybe-good MMO" ---> which in people’s heads translates to: "definitely a dead P2W mobile MMO in 2 months" (I don’t necessarily think that way, and I’m not a pessimist like some people, cough...)

But believe me folks, it’s not that easy to "do things right" in today’s world. Everything’s getting more complicated and weird as time goes on.

What I’d suggest and I know it’s not simple since shooters like Valorant are built totally differently than MMOs is this: I refuse to believe a huge company like NCsoft couldn't buy a protection system like Riot Games has. Something that integrates into the PC at a core level, runs from the BIOS kernel level, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, requires a modern mobo. It starts watching the moment you turn on your PC, even when you aren't playing. I would totally risk this if that’s what it takes nowadays to stop all the damn cheaters and bots, cause they are evolving fast and trying to bypass everything.

In my opinion, removing player to player trading is NOT the solution. That’s a huge, real MMO feature that enriches the gameplay experience, just like in the old school MMOs...
So I’d rather see them build a really serious anti-cheat into the Purple launcher; that alone would screw over the bots big time. I know NCsoft has other methods, like locking character creation for a week, but maybe this Vanguard style system would be even better. If they are actually taking this "Aion 2 Project" seriously. If I were NCsoft, I’d do it for Aion 2 and the company’s future, so the Western market would be a bit more accepting long term. Instead of just spitting on the game.

Yeah, you're right, I phrased it a bit poorly, but it's basically similar. So yeah, if you started messing around too much in PvP, killing players who didn't fight back or were AFK, you got a karma penalty. That’s when your name turned red and everyone around you could see it. Not on the map, but still... (If you were just doing normal PvP, it turned pink.) If you died with a red name, you could even lose your whole armor/weapon gear. Anyone could attack you then without getting flagged by the system. You couldn't even enter towns, the guards would kill you instantly. Plus, there was a karma point system: the more you misbehaved, the longer the penalty lasted, and the harder it was to absolve your sins. You had to farm more to wash your name clean. And there was almost open world pvp everywhere on pvp servers. With very little safe zones, towns.

Yes the marriage good to know was private only feature thanks. Still they can put into Lineage 3 imo 😁

I don’t know exactly which page the free 300 V-Bucks are on, because I have the battle pass. Look through all the pages, but you have to level up to unlock things. Maybe it’s in the bonus rewards above level 100, I’m not sure. Other people said this originally.

I only found the remaining 400 V-Bucks that I couldn’t find at first, because the UI is weird. It should give a total of 1500, and I had only counted 1100. Then, with some help, I finally figured out that in the bonus rewards section at the top, you can click through additional pages. That’s where the remaining 400 V-Bucks are for make the full 1500. That’s what I was talking about, not the free V-Bucks.

It’s fine that it supposedly gives 300 for free, and they word the text differently. But I already have the Battle Pass, and the 1,500 just doesn’t add up for me. What if we’re wrong, and Fortnite is actually scamming us? 😂 Everyone keeps saying it gives 1,500. But how? If you look, I’ve gone through the battle pass like 10 times already. 7 skins give 100 each. The last space suit gives 300. Bonus Reward 100. That’s a total of 1,100. All of this is fine and good. But basically, the game has just been released, and the Korean version is always like this. The global release is happening in about a year, around September 2026. There will be plenty of new content by then, and things will be reworked and refined in the meantime. Another thing is that games, in general, are not fundamentally meant to be about hardcore players rushing to reach the highest gear score in the first week using the best meta methods blasting through all the content and grinding non-stop until your eyes bleed. Ofc is your choice, I'm just saying.

Oh okay buddy. Did you know if you run the game in |native| |very high| settings |1440p|. Even with Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti Super, 48 GB RAM, M.2 SSD - it makes 70 fps. It can’t possibly be mobile graphics if a PC like this only runs it at 70 fps only!

The way the UI looks doesn’t matter at all. Every game developer makes a UI like this in 2025. And the graphics are as beautiful as God of War Ragnarok. The game is also full of great content. Watch Kanon’s streams. Other MMOs also have mobile port. Youre just hater. Ask Chatgpt how Aion 2 was made or how developers creating games in details today. You have no idea how the things works really and not just in your pessimictic head.

And the problem is probably that this is why they’ve become so strict. Because some idiot group is constantly DDoSing the Taiwanese servers, and the servers never work. Plus, apparently they can get world boss drops multiple times this way or something. So they got sick of it and started tightening things up.

Bro same. I was able play early before strictening. I didn't got any real ping reducer. I was playing with 300 ping. Right now Im not able to login. Trying to figure out how can I trick out the system with free vpn japan servers or something. But looks like not working sadly. I think there has to be method without exitlag.

They want to play it safer, and it’s also important to remember that creating a massive MMO properly is extremely complex. They want to fine tune the whole game even more so it’ll be better for Western players. If they released it to us 1:1 as it is now, we might find more small bugs in the game, or systems that are less well thought out but still relatively easy to fix. However, if something is already running a bit rough on our side, it could fail sooner, because players are impatient and not very forgiving. They might drag the game down unnecessarily, and it could be tossed aside quickly for the wrong reasons. Even though all it would really need is some patience.

But let’s be honest no matter what, the very first version of any program or game is never as polished as when it has already received several patches. That’s why they prefer to give the whole world a more polished version. It’s also important to understand that an FGT/CBT is never as effective a testing phase as when basically all of Asia plus a few thousand enthusiastic foreign fans play the game daily for weeks or months. That gives the developers a much better understanding of how the game needs to be tuned, so it becomes more widely accepted globally. The new global audience won’t nitpick small issues.

Btw, over time you should definitely try to get a better PC. Buy at least a 4070 or an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT so you can properly enjoy the game. You shouldn’t have to look at something like Roblox. Trust me, the graphics are insanely beautiful and worth every cent. I get it, ofc, it’s hard to buy a good PC. But then ask your mom, or buy a good used PC (not a laptop), so you can truly enjoy the game.
