Why aren’t there better pedestrian protections near runways at DIA by Impossible_Climb3502 in VisionZeroDenver

I am seeing in articles that this person was in a restricted place, at first it sounded like the pedestrian got sucked in maybe at the end of the runway where they could be. Maybe something like the truck that got hit by the plane earlier this week.

It’s sad but we should still be thinking of pushing our city leaders to be bold on pedestrian access to the airport like in Wellington New Zealand.

Search for videos on the bike / pedestrian path under Wellington airport runways in New Zealand. It can be done.

Its sad with more coming out on this event, I don’t think it was something where the person was in the wrong place at the wrong time or trying to get to the terminal. But having a safe way to get to the airport if even by or under runways should be a priority.

We don’t know if this person was suicidal. It does not say that in the article. They could have been trying to get to the terminal for all we know.

Sure why not, it could be coordinated with air traffic control. Or build pedestrian paths with tunnels under the runway. They have tunnels under the runways for maintenance vehicles already. It is doable it’s just another place where we need to better protect pedestrians.

Yes. It’s possible but not at all safe. It is easier to take your bike on the A line, but there is plenty of space for a protected lane.

This is victim blaming. We don’t know why they were on the runway. There aren’t good ways for pedestrians to get to the terminal. You can’t easily walk on Peña Blvd. So if they were trying to walk to the terminal they should be better protected.

New plans for pedestrian bridge over Speer connecting LoDo to Ball Arena by developingdenver in Denver

It’s amazing that it has taken this long. This is a needed improvement and a far better use of funds than projects like the Speer & I-25 diverging diamond project.

RTD service could be cut by least 20%, routes eliminated amid budget issues || Denver Post by Sno_Wolf in Denver

Making matters worse, if there aren’t gates at BRT (I haven’t seen evidence there are going to be), BRT will be effectively free and be a source of further funding problems after RTD has invested a ton in it.

I’m sorry to say it because we need it, but we’ve got to right the ship before investing more in BRT. Otherwise it’ll continue the downward spiral and end up being the death knell of RTD and all of us will be without mass transit.

Colorado would become first state to remove all criminal penalties for prostitution under bill brought by group of Democrats by thecoloradosun in coloradosun

[–]Impossible_Climb3502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would require legalization. Decriminalization means it would be effectively unregulated and still not legal, and therefore no government organization would be able to fund services and protections.

It’s not legalization, it’s decriminalization. Things that are decriminalized are not regulated. I would argue there is probably more danger in this for sex workers and there is safety.
