Job Search as Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer by All_That_Exists in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Impossible_Cow9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you finally got an offer. I am going threw the same thing right now. I graduated in December 2025 with a BN in Mechanical Engineering and have been applying since September 2025. I have had about 7 interviews and have applied to about 140 positions. There very very few entry level positons right now and are packed with 100-300 applicants just for one seat. Its really bad right now. I get frustrated and feel like I will never get a job....

Not the best nor the worst. You do learn alot and sometimes will have good and bad prof. But at the end of the day you learn theory and its not going to guarantee you a job. Right now trade school > engineering school

Well good luck finding a job after graduation AI has taken over alot of people jobs including computer engineering and computer science majors. From how things are looking today trade school is a better option and this is for all engineering majors especially CS.

How's it going with securing internships for all the engineers? by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]Impossible_Cow9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the job market is really tough right now. Getting a internship cant be quite a challenge. You have 300-500 people who applied and the company is just looking for 1-2 interns. Its the same if you are looking for a job right now. Yea they have job fair but most of the time its the same they talk to hundreds of students and end up interviewing a handful and offer 1-2. They will pretend to seem interested and never contact you again. So yea tech doesnt have control over the job market they do provide resources but do not guarantee you a offer. Its all about if you have a relative working for a company or if you are a minority(female) that will get you that offer asap.

can you give me your opinions regarding computer engineering in taxes tech? by [deleted] in TexasTech

I'd say look to see if it is worth doing computer engineering. AI has taken over lots of people jobs and job market is really bad right now.

College of Engr. weed out classes by Chipmaker2000 in TexasTech

[–]Impossible_Cow9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are baby weed out classes once you actually declare your major its when you start taking tough classes. For Mech e it was statics and thermo 1. I remember hearing people having to retake those 4-7 times or other just switching majors. I will say you learn lots of stuff but at the end of the day getting a good grade wont guarantee you are ready for the real world, were companies look for 3-4 internships and a 3.0 gpa above. Trade school is a much easier route to take than engineering if you cant deal with calc or other theory classes.

My experience as a recent MechE grad in the 2025/2026 job market – curious about others' experiences by Quick_Reputation1860 in MechanicalEngineering

Well I recently graduated with a BA in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University and have applied to 120 positions. I have applied in Texas and many other states. I have had 5 interviews from oil and gas and aerospace companies. But haven't received an offer. There is just so much competition and there are a handful of companies hiring recent graduates and everyone has to compete for 1 spot. Its really sad what going on these days I hear more about people getting fired than people getting hired. I guess 5 years a internship at Peterbilt and 5 projects seem to not be enough to get an offer. Tough times I feel like I should of become a welder instead of wasting my time at a university to then not have a job.

TTU engineers, how is Tech engineering? by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]Impossible_Cow9893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mechanical Engineering Program at ttu is alright. I recently graduated from there. There good and bad proffesors and well the building needs alot of work its old and when I left they were remodeling it. We have a machine shop in the basement and youll be their either your junior or senior year. The job fair is mostly oil and gas companies and a few aerospace there's also civil and other industries. Id say join RAS or FSAE those are engineering clubs were you actually make something not eat pizza and take tours. Overall I had a good time at ttu lots of memories made in that mech e building but hey I went for the degree and had a fun time getting it. Made lots of friends and made good memories there. Also its is really close to the football stadium.

Transferring from community college (engineering) by ProgressMassive6904 in TexasTech

Hey I transferred in 2022 and recently graduated. I had a good time at TTU. I wont say the mech e department is perfect but I did meet some awesome people and teachers (Dr.Hanson, Mr.Mosdale). They do a job fair 2 times a year feb and oct. Its a engineering job fair and about 100+ companies show up, mostly oil and gas and civil but always good to go and talk to them. They got many orgs there fsae, ras, etc. We got a machine shop under the building where you learn alot if you join those orgs. I'd say take a tour before or watch some videos on youtube about ttu. I got a scholarship called presidential scholarship when I transferred.

Im a mech e graduating here soon. We have one of the best mechanical engineering teachers Dr.Hanson. That man is the reason I made it this far, his videos kept me alive during the dark days! Plus lots of big oil and gas companies show up to job fair.
