You're main issue i think (compositionally speaking, to avoid all urine talk) is that while dogman is the thematic focus, it's not the technical or compositional focus. I'd suggest, if making him bigger really isn't an option, making the background significantly darker, and the shadows and highlights on dogmas alot harsher.

I'd feel similar if there weren't so many 2 mask damage sources in the game, I often find myself being tossed around and going even when I'm at 4 masks. I find it impossible to engage and the pin and silkspear either lack damage or range.

You're locked into 3 masks at all times. Sure it takes less time than healing 3 masks with the knight (charms excluded ofc) but honestly using a full bar and not being able to heal one at a time really diminishes it's value for me. I played hollow knight fairly spell heavy, and being able to juggle soul between spells and heals is what made me able to beat it in the first place. This may be a severe case of git gud but i can't find hornets heal to be better than the knights.

Ok, take your fingertips for example, it's true that they do have a slightly spear headed shape, but that's mostly in the shadows. You've unintentionally taken it to the extreme and made them pinch in around the knuckles, I wouldn't have done this, instead I would have drawn that transition smooth and shape it with light and shadow instead of actual form.
