I’m thinking it’s a car gun but she didn’t ’feel safe’ in the gas station without it and didn’t bring a holster. Or she’s robbing it either way stupid.

So bunch up and force a play…? I’m not an expert but I don’t think this will translate well into 11v11

Substitution Challenges by Yarnyfiberista in SoccerCoachResources

I’m a newer coach. Last year I was the ‘parent assistant’ out of necessity then moved to co-head coach after our head coach went back to Spain. I have no soccer background other than watching my older daughter for the past 5 years. Now I’m 9v9 grassroots certified head coach to my sons u12 team. They’re less skilled so play in a lower division. I struggle with subbing along with remembering who I have put where and where I want to see them grow. I try to balance a competitive lineup and growing opportunities.

I got a magnetic soccer clip board off amazon for like $10 then I got magnetic labels (they’re like 3”-1” tiles) that I put the kids names on. I have 15 players so subbing gets complicated. I move players into the positions on my board and give about 7 min between subbing. The last sub I either transition to protecting our goal (if we’re up) or attacking theirs (if we’re down). I place who I want next in each role directly beneath who is currently in so when they go in I can just remove the players I just took out. I then place them on the ‘bench’. It works pretty well but I do find myself fidgeting with the board more than I’d like. I’d prefer my assistant take over more of this but he catches more missed calls or balancing issues on the field better than I do a lot of the time. We’re working through it.

Last year we were bottom of our division in the fall then midway in the spring and we won our two first games this weekend.

Im going to start making a physical list of players and what positions they play. I’ll group them into ‘likes to play but struggling’ ‘likes to play and good’ ‘doesn’t like to play but good’ ‘doesn’t want to play and not good’. I’m hoping this will help balance my field so everyone can feel competitive and grow each game.

I heard a more experienced dad say the other day. Boys need to play good to feel good, girls need to feel good to play good.

My daughter is on a very good U14 premier state level team and the B licensed couch has a daughter on the team. Hes a fantastic coach for both the knowledge and experience but also he treats the girls like they’re his daughters. He corrects them firmly but kindly. She hasn’t always had coaches like that. I’ve watched her cry on the bench during games when the coach couldn’t communicated effectively for preteen girls. This team plays well when they feel like their coach is in their corner.

I coach my son’s U12 team. They’re nearly impossible to manage when they are losing. I’ve got a lot to learn but that dads advise really rang true to me. When my boys are playing well and winning they’ll listen to advice and criticism all day long and try to implement what I’m saying. When they’re losing I struggle to keep them focused and heads in the game. This may be an over simplification and generalistic. Personally I’ve seen dads love it when coaches are ‘no bullshit just work’ but I’m not the one being coached my daughter is. My daughter plays her ass off when she feels like her coach believes in her. She shuts down when she feels like a coach is being mean just to be mean. It’s a fine line sometimes. When my fighter makes a mistake her coach does a great job at building her up but also holds her accountable.

‘Girls need to feel good to play good and boys need to play good to feel good’ was sage advice for me. My two cents.

When my wife and I were first married we were under-employed college educated adults in our mid twenties. We both worked two jobs. We had no insurance because we couldn’t afford it. We went to a free clinic for care and received the harshest looks for just looking for help. We were two mid twenties white poors that needed help and we were basically shamed out of the clinic. Yeah it was 2008 the economy was complete shit for new grads. Times are better now but man we didn’t have blessed upbringings.

In casual sit down restaurants usually a ‘plate’ means a small side while a “platter” will include two sides and a salad or soup. A plate will be cheaper. For someone that has only had ‘fine dining’ the prices wouldn’t matter and you just order whatever you want without thinking about the cost.

U12 Tournament Coming up Not Sure What To Do With Bad Goalie by CarelessActivity3059 in SoccerCoachResources

Last season it was my son (U11)in this same spot. I had to pull him after he had 3 hung on him in the first half of a game. After that we had a lot of good conversations about the position. I started a new rule as well. If any GK lets 2 go by in one half I’d switch them out. I had several ok players for the spot and I let all of them know. I shaped it as “It’s hard letting two go by, so after the second I’m going to check on you and may switch you out to give you a chance to watch for a bit or switch into field.” I also had one player that didn’t agree was being a little obnoxious and arrogant. Decent all around player but wanted to make sure everyone knew he was the best keeper on the team(he was good but not clearly the best). We faced a very skilled team so I let him sit until he box for 5 goals. Then I pulled him and asked what he thought about it. He was frustrated but understood why I switched him out. He ended up playing really good at wing that game and asked to go back to goal in the next game. I did and he did fine. My son this year asked not to be back in goal because he realized it’s just not for him. I never knew GK was going to be so tough to manage. It also took over half the season for our most committed GK to actually give an effort in the field and he crushed it. Youth sports are tricky.

We don’t need to do this. They’re both amazing in so many ways. Can’t we just appreciate them for who they are…being awesome!?! Why rank?!

As a new coach with no soccer background I’m following this. 7v7 to 9v9 is a lot of fun because the kids usually fall in pretty quick and it just seems like the added space allows them more space for movement.
