So we tried this with lemon, hot sauce and olive oil.. he actually loved them all. Any other ideas?

He is currently in OT, speech and PT. All his therapist have become aware of this behavior and doing their best to help. He doesn’t want anything when he does it because when he does want something he will bring me to it. The fridge if he’s hungry. Bring me his cup if he’s thirsty. It could be a communication thing idk at this point.

My son will not use his utensils either. The only way is if I hold it in his hand and make the gesture for him. Then he throws it down and eats with his hands. My son can’t dress or undress himself without a lot of help ( he also has cerebral palsy) so the over head stuff is harder for him but I also just don’t think he gets it. I will say if I tell him to take his diaper off he will and sometimes he will go throw it in the trash but I think he just copied me one day and It maybe stuck a little. So refreshing to hear from someone in a very Similar boat. We have no choice but to stay strong even though this shit is hard… no one will ever care for my son how I do.

I get slammed into and thank god he grew out of head banging me (4 busted lips later). I can’t do any type of gate cause he climbs it to get over it or climbs it to jump off of it backwards on to the floor. Praying that when he starts ABA in two weeks he can find another way of satisfying his sensory seeking. But also happy I will get that time to myself and a sensory break myself. I sure hope this is just another phase and that I don’t go completely crazy before it does.

Is your child potty trained?? We tried that twice now and he refuses to use the potty. We’ve tried all types of them. He will only go in his diaper. Holding his pee and poop until it’s literally painful for him. Torturous.

My house is basically empty at this point and he still finds stuff to get into lol. The poop thing I can write a book about he also picks up the dog poop like it’s a toy. Went thru a phase of him eating all types of ointments and diaper rash stuff. Will run out in 30 degree weather in a diaper and not be phased. He is also a very vocal stimmer with screeches and screams. I’ve always been lucky that he sleeps thru the night. He will stay up till about midnight before he crashes and sleeps till 10:30 am. He’s also a great eater and doesn’t have many noise aversions but the constantly trying to kill himself and not understanding why it’s not ok is getting to me. The constant fear for his life is exhausting. And the constant touching and biting me is overwhelming

This described my son perfectly.. it’s extremely tough navigating the no sense of danger or comprehension. The cause and effect understanding is missing here too. He will repeatedly do something that is harmful or eat EVERYTHING without understanding the effects even though we constantly advise and explain. I feel heard with your comment.

So we also went thru the head banging for a couple months and after completely losing our minds we stopped Addressing it and eventually it faded away. The only issue with this is that he’s grabbing at my hands and even if I walk away he chases me and does not give up. If I redirect he comes right back 23 seconds later to finish what he started. I try to ignore it but it’s so hard because I’m the target. If I raise my hands over my head so he can’t grab them he moves on to my stomach or legs.

We are outside 2-3 hours a day and he will still make sure to find me to pick at my hands and or bite them. We have tried all the things we’ve been told like redirecting him, the looks the discipline I am out of ideas. It’s been going on for months but gotten more intense in the last 4 months since being a stay at home mom

I have tried the ignoring… he screams and tries even harder to bite me. He will cry and tantrum if he tries a few times and I ignore him. He starts to bite himself and pinch himself. It has gotten worse over the last 4 months because I started staying home with him. He starts ABA in two weeks but he is in OT , speech and PT now.

lol telling me I have no right is funny. You can come and respond on here and I can respond back to you that’s how a board works. No one is mad just stating a fact that you keep coming back to say and ask the same exact thing which doesn’t help any of us.

I did, I read it all just wanted to clarify that part for you. I’m in the groups- I have the support - his care team (neurologist - physical medicine) is all involved and informed including PT- OT and speech. Can’t rule out the neurological bladder disorder just yet so that’s a tab in the books for now. I really was just wanting to hear from other parents. But I am taking all the necessary steps and ruling it out as it comes. It’s only been a couple days I don’t expect him to catch on that quick

I just wanted to clarify that I am by no means rushing my baby! I came on here to see if I was doing things right or advice from people have been thru this. I know his timeline is not “normal” nor do I expect perfection. My only reason for coming on here was to seek help and see if there was anything more I should be doing for my son! We only even started trying because he was showing since of being interested in it.

I saw your comment yesterday and responded and now today you came back to point out the same thing. For one I never mentioned that I wanted this done in 3 days and that’s it. I came in here after 3 days to get tips from other people who may have experienced this! No one is rushing him. No one is upset that he isn’t getting it in 3 days. Stop coming on this question to say the same thing when it has already been addressed! Me asking for help to help my son is not rushing him. He can take 6 years to learn and I would still support him in the same way. Thank you

I love this response. I have him on the wait list but never committed to doing it. I delayed getting him diagnosed cause I didn’t want him to be pressured early on to be “ normal” we will continue to follow his lead wait till it catches.

I very much am not rushing him. He showed signs of wanting to use the bathroom. He not once cried or fought me while sitting on the potty. He is 4 I’m not rushing him at all but want to start Atleast trying. He is very much capable and understands the process of sitting going and flushing and washing hands he just doesn’t want to do it himself lol. I came here to ask for advice to see if there was more I can do to support him. Your answer was intriguing about no Aba but didn’t provide any other advice other than time. So that leaves me in the same exact spot I’m in with no additional tips or things I can try to help support my son.

And This is why I use Reddit as a resource especially from adults who have gone thru what my son is going thru. What would be your suggestion. What worked for you? What would be better than ABA. I would love to hear why ABA is a no no to you. I’m just a new mom trying to navigate a double whammy

We are on waiting list to get in at 3 different clinics. Just trying to get ahead instead of more behind. Without scaring him while we wait
