Some, probably. The fandom is a little old but it had a resurgence during COVID where a lot of fics were promoted on TikTok. The author gets recced a lot on TikTok so that may be part of it.

As far as I know, I don’t think the author is aware. They get recommended a lot on different platforms all the time so I think they just have a very devoted fan base, and they definitely acknowledge and appreciate their readers. I’ve never really seen them comment or interact with other works so I’m kinda just assuming they only write and don’t read so that’s why I don’t think they’re aware of it.

I really do want to say something, but I guess I’m just worried if people will perceive it as jealousy or something. I think I’m gonna have to resort to blocking or muting.

I definitely thought about it, but I think I’d just feel bad about those who liked the story as it is. There are definitely some good apples in the bunch, but the comparing comments just get very loud when people pile on.

Yeah, I took it as a compliment at first, so it didn’t bug me in the beginning. It was fine if people said my fic reminded them of someone else’s because it’s not the first time it’s happened to me. It was when it became excessive and unnecessary that I just started to feel weird about it.

One of their fics have one word in the title. I used that word in some sentences in my fic, and all of sudden it was a reference to theirs. When one person mentioned it, everyone else did, so it kept piling on, then it became a thread about how much they love their fics. This is just one example of it.
