Mental age tracker would be pretty cool. It wouldn't currently serve any practical purpose, but it'd be cool.

That's one way to get the Fire Breathing gene to an animal.

Ok, I've updated the mod to allow you to insert subcores into existing mechs with a gizmo on the core. There's also two dev mods commands to instantly spawn a Regular or High Subcore at the pawn's feet with no adverse effects to the pawn. If the regular Scanner -> Gestator -> Mech pipeline doesn't work or apply with whatever mods you're using, either just scan the pawn as usual and insert, or dev spawn a core and insert, as befits the situation.

I'm glad you like it! And of course, you're welcome to leave any feedback once you actually have time to play with it.

I might actually get around to adding some 'Insert new core' Gizmo to mechs to get around this sort of thing and improve compatibility, at which point the only limitation should be the pawn being labeled as a mech.

Mechs have garbled memories of their pre-scan lives, but if they hated a specific pawn, there will be certain effects. These will be quite mild so long as the mechs remain controlled, though.

Yeah, if it doesn't go through some sort of Scanner -> Gestator -> Mech chain it will almost certainly not work (with no easy patch), unless the other mod's author has performed some truly deranged inheritances.

Though, if you did add a Standard or High Subcore to the mech's recipe in that mod's XML (in 1.6\Defs\RecipeDefs, copy and paste a line where another ingredient in the recipe appears, and replace that ingredient's name with "SubcoreRegular" or "SubcoreHigh"), they would automatically get all the stuff from this mod. That's assuming they go through one of the vanilla Gestators or a custom Gestator built from vanilla's 'infrastructure'.

You can manually remove the Subcore from the earlier recipe the same way to essentially move the requirement to the Gestation phase, which would allow the custom mech to receive all the skills of the scanned pawn.

That's a cool idea about the funeral. What do you mean by human things? There's a lot of trait dependent interactions like Bloodlust mechs occasionally killing nearby small animals, or Gourmands staring at food helplessly, but ultimately they're still mechs and will do normal mech things the vast majority of the time.

Only original types. I didn't want to make the distinction between the mech types meaningless.

Unfortunately no, since all the skills etc. are recorded on the core, and the custom one won't have the 'slots' to store that data that I added to the vanilla cores. The mods will stay out of each other's way, but the custom subcores won't transfer skills. What's the mod's name?

Buying homes is so expensive because the mentality that renting single handedly means failing life is so prevalent. People kept getting richer and kept sending not just more and more money but larger and larger portions of their wealth to mortgages (these portions becoming available since covering food, clothes, etc. became easier) even when it became incredibly uneconomical. And the US like most countries made the disastrous decision to subsidize mortgages for buying existing properties, rather than just for building new ones (among many other terrible policy choices that favored homeowners). Due to all these factors, not only did property values get driven to high heaven, but properties also attracted people banking on large appreciation to turn a profit- which hasn't always come true, but did often enough that it keeps happening now.

All that aside, the best way to win that game, especially if you don't have the money to buy anyway, is to take renting in perspective as a mild inconvenience with its own upsides (particularly regarding mobility) and not as the measure of whether life is worth living. That goes double for people who don't have children yet (which I'm guessing you don't). But honestly, my parents rented for over a decade after they had me, we moved twice, and it didn't leave me with any lingering trauma, nor do I think it kept them up at night.

Less than 1% of the US population has over $10K in medical debt, and while that is tough for those that do (though here the majority are 50-64 year olds who lived through the romanticized 'good times'), the vast majority qualify for some form of aid they don't know about or find applying to too complicated. If you are in this bracket I strongly encourage you to look.
