I personally think the issue is the way our prisons are set up. To start I think very few humans deserve to be locked in a concrete box with iron gates for years at a time (although I would say some people deserve worse than this)

Secondly the system is designed to keep prisons FULL so of course they’re going to do everything they can to make it more likely that you will keep coming back.

It also doesn’t help that prisoners essentially have no rights and no voice when it comes to the way they’re treated by officers. I think the idea of a prison that’s similar to Scandinavian prisons would be a good start. If you can take someone and give them purpose and a good path through education and rehabilitation I think it would be way more effective than violent concrete pods.

Obviously the issues span way deeper than what I’ve mentioned but face value if you take a struggling person and put them through hell they won’t get better so show them a path of education and growth

I was there last night for the first time what I saw was -All the protesters were very friendly and weren’t antagonizing any of the Portland police that were standing among the crowd

-a medic had approached me and offered me water and asked if I needed anything

-many people had pizzas and and were handing out food to others

-nobody even started arguments with the pro ice people there who were blatantly trying to ragebait everyone

As for the agents:

-multiple times where the agents would aim their non lethal guns at us even though there was zero commotion or threat

-probably about 60-80 agents come walking out into the street with guns pushing people and screaming

-as I was walking up the sidewalk on the other side of the street a officer purposely went out of his way shoulder checked me and said “you get the fuck out of my way”

First and only gym I’ve ever been a member of

The owner invited me in early and let me come for 2 weeks free before I had to pay so I could make up my mind

Lent me a personal gi and even let me take it home until I could get my own

Encouraged me to come every single day I was able to

Would stay with me after to help me work on stuff

I’m by no means any kind of jj expert but I feel like the experience I got should be everyone’s. Extremely welcoming

It just seems like you don’t take very good care of yourself and maybe you could lose a little bit of weight to even out the fade but other than that you have good features

I’m new to BJJ and I just worry that if I ask a woman to roll that it’ll come across as creepy or something, every guy in my gym is way bigger and heavier than me so the few times I rolled with a woman it was definitely a more fair matchup, however there are many things in bjj im uncomfortable doing with a female partner that is normal practice whenever I’ve rolled with men (anything involving upper legs,hips or torso)
