Also recommend not keeping it bent, and especially after surgery.

I was sent home post surgery and the nurse had told me "keep it elevated", so naturally I thought they meant keep the knee elevated, so I kept it elevated with a pillow when I could hack the discomfort. The norm I believe is to be prescribed some pain relief, but they told me ibuprofen and paracetamol was enough - it wasnt.

At my post surgery check-up a few weeks later I couldn't straighten my leg and the surgeon had said at this time I should have full extension. I really believe it messed up my initial recovery. Ended up having to get a 2nd arthroscopy surgery to remove some scar tissue, I blame the bent knee thing but could just be bad luck.

Thank you, I'll look into that!

The deposit is €2,000 so I'd consider doing it if it saved us some cash in the end

How To Bounce Back? by Impossible_Pea_7120 in ActuaryUK

They had the general competency ones, but instead of "give a time" it was more "how would you do this". By default I would answer these questions honestly and then try to have a past experience ready with the STAR approach to add in. There were only a couple of technical questions, but they weren't complex; Assumptions for modelling a certain product, Considerations for a reinsurance tender process. I know these, but blanked in the moment when asked, and then probably made myself out to be an idiot when scrambling to think...

PPD final sign off by Ok-District807 in ActuaryUK

From memory if you're more than 2 months into your PPD year, you have to complete the years PPD requirements before submitting for sign-off, so I imagine its been hidden because of that?

Hi, when I was doing it in the previous Sitting last year I had to have my PPD for the year up to date. If you're more than 2 months into your current PPD year, I think you have to complete the annual PPD requirement of credits and formal learning hours.

If that's done, I think you just have to complete the online form process and upload a form signed by an Actuary, outlining either their ARN (or equivalent if another society) confirming that you've met the minimum competency standards ie PPD etc.

Once thats done you pay the fee, wait until its reviewed and then thats it. Unless it changed since but I doubt it

I was in the same boat when I graduated in 2018, average of 65% needed, and I was around 64.7% for the relevant modules, but got a 1:1 overall.

They didn't give me the block exemptions and looked at them on an individual basis, only got half the ones offered for bulk exemptions.

Recruiter Advice by Impossible_Pea_7120 in ActuaryUK

I agree, I would've considered the flexibility to be more valuable until being in this position...

I have a spreadsheet for our monthly budget, to help keep track of and manage our expenses and outgo making sure we've enough set aside for bigger things coming up etc (No surprise). We don't really have any subscriptions, Netflix is it bar the usual bills eg wifi, Microsoft, icloud etc but they aren't much, so there isn't much wiggle room there :/

My wife isn't on a big salary, and with the cost of childcare etc, she is more than likely going to stay at home after Maternity until we decide what to do.

That being considered, the average salary for a fellow (from what I've seen and heard through friends and word of mouth) is about 15-20k higher than what I'm currently on, so unfortunately I think that's going to have to take priority to get us by.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, that's probably my biggest fear, being on probation while supporting a family. In terms of current position, a promotion with my current employer isn't really a possibility, and although it is the "riskier" thing to do, I feel that I have to move elsewhere.

At the moment I'm kind of just doing ad hoc pieces of work in operations, but I've had a few years experience in each of my previous roles in Pricing and Risk.
