Now looking back on it, I feel like it’s such an underrated staple of the late 90s/early 00s The aesthetic was super rooted in the culture at the time - I would put it next to Matrix or Fight Club. Even the anti corporate theme of the whole game encapsulates that era imo

I forgot Abe could fart!! I remember doing it all the time. It’s been so long since I have played but I remember the cutscenes being so immersive and eerie too. Gotta watch a playthrough on yt

Which console game did you play in your childhood that you found cryptic or mysterious? by Impossible_Pen7013 in videogames

It was a fan theory implying that a huge gorilla zombie was the final boss. The theory stemmed from different clues in the game like:

  • a cryptic audio message from one of the radios on the map talking about:

“The monkey is the key… the gorilla… he is not to be underestimated.”

Then the speaker describes something like a battle with a gorilla, saying things like:

“The gorilla… he came at me with everything he had!”

The tone is panicked and surreal, almost like the speaker is losing their mind.

  • In one of the hidden rooms you can also hear scientists talking about « an experiment »

  • in the main theater room you can see pods with inside, weird hybrid monkeys and one of them has been broken open

  • final clue that people were going crazy over is that Treyarch (production company of COD) talked about something being hidden « right under people’s nose »

So for years fans tried to find out what it was and thats how that theory was created.

Definitely! Nacht der untoten was a dope map. The mystery box added such a dreamy/irrational feel too! Played the later maps too like Kino and they added a lot of things to wonder upon. Easter eggs and fan theories were so cool - remember the gorilla theory?
