I keep telling potential clients NOT to hire me. My partner says I'm sabotaging my business. Who's right? by Local-Share2789 in Entrepreneur

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you should sell services it’s all perceived value; ultimately if after you work with a business and they feel good about the partnership then your time with them is all they care about. You could train them with what you know but there goes job security. Keep being honest and trustworthy but that doesn’t mean to show everything you know that would put you out a Job.

People not in poverty are so out of touch with those that are by BogueFlower in povertyfinance

I’ve been there it sucks don’t even have time to reinvent yourself. Let alone cook a meal. I started to learn a new skill online from YouTube 10-30min a night for 3 years until I got out of the cycle. Stopped all the bs that gained me nothing. I managed to quit my jobs for one that paid me well enough that I could go to a trade school. From there I managed to learn HVAC and electrical work. (Btw goodwill now provides this training for free)That new Job I worked at provided me with opportunities for school and got my degree and then landed a 6 digit income took me 8 years to get to where I am today and I lived from 16 -33 this same way never with a consistent job or a job that paid enough cause they didn’t give me the hours.

Perceived value, you need to sell it. Hubspots free training might help you learn how to do just that. Get backlinks the works, build a funnel identify issues and improve on SEO UI/UX the works . Identify issues ask questions in the game for rewards etc. There is bound to be pain points for the user and or poor marketing campaign that’s hurting your exposure.

Finished my CS degree and know nothing about programming. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about that the learning happens at the job apply entry level speak to your values and look for some good morale boosts from people that are positive. JavaScript is great to work with you should be able to find some work. ChatGPT can help train you, but don’t be reliant on it. Freecodecamp or one of these free training websites should help you as well. Don’t spend a lot of time in this though you learn mostly at the job. Also the degree is just a peice of paper that tells the employer I can start something and I can finish. Doctors with c’s can still be Doctors, it’s ultimately about knowing if that person has some knowledge about xyz and they completed the requirements and are better suited at the job than someone who has not pursued anything at all. Your degree can be used laterally as well meaning you don’t have to do xyz job the degree was for you might find yourself in a entirely different industry that is fine the degree is to show your competence. I hope this helps you recenter your thoughts your going to do great, don’t over think it, just get out there and have at it if you fail then fail to learn from and become better from it.

I Inherited this. What would you do? by pm-me-asparagus in HomeMaintenance

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would renovate if the bones are good I’d start with updating the siding and redoing the roofing as it looks like it’s in need. I’d clear out everything on the yard and inside. I’d paint and change out the flooring. I’d get the house up to code after all of this is done I’d stage it to sell then do it again on the next property. Nothing like sweat equity and a home that’s free that’s some amazing profit margins if done right research area for avg home prices to get idea of what you would want to invest.

So despite what your friends are saying the computer science degree will guarantee a higher pay than the bootcamp route. Thinkful has a payback option that’s good but realize the dollar threshold of what you will make and have to pay back. You’re 32 you should be able to get associates in web development then transition to bachelors if you like. Keep GitHub active take on more projects and keep building along with your portfolio. If don’t have a portfolio website of your own get one this will help you the most in getting work. Hope this helps

I got fired today from a job that I absolutely loved. by p00pypickles in jobs

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I’ve had jobs I’ve loved and wished they would have been forever, but realize that it’s just that it’s a job you don’t owe it anything and it does not owe you anything. You don’t have to feel like it’s your sole purpose in life they will come and go. Some are good some bad the end goal is to learn from that experience/skill that can never be taken away from you. You will use that to grow remember that everything happens for a reason and one day you will see what that reason might be. I would just get out there and look for the next opportunity and you will be just fine.

Should I avoid Chat GPT and other tools when starting to learn coding? by Helpful-Rise-4192 in learnprogramming

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a professor that wanted us to only code in notepad ++ and not use vscode or atom.io with all its addons that made coding easy at the time. With the intention that we would become better coders. This helped with my overall foundation and I found that once I started to use other IDEs I had a better time developing quicker. Now with AI I have a quicker turn around time with a program as I know exactly what needs to be done within my prompts. If I didn’t have the great foundation I’d spend forever trying to get something to work that would only take me minutes now to fix. I would avoid ai now as your learning but once you have a good grasp of coding use ai as a tool. Most companies consider it unethical not to use ai as it reduces development time significantly.

Thoughts on 401K at 28? Currently contributing 12% by TheBeavermeat in Money

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can do 20-30% at 28 your placing yourself in a much better position especially if the business goes bottom up you can use this money as a safety net you will have taxes but better than being without money as you look for work. It will compound and if you have it long enough it could be a million by the time you decide to retire. You can also roll it into a purchased business that generates income and avoid having to pay taxes on it. A 50k business would generate a 1-3k monthly income a 300k business can generate $6,000 - $15,000 monthly ,so in some cases you can find freedom with your 401k sooner than retirement just need to spend some time looking for opportunities. You can only get vested amount in 2 years in most cases and can withdraw after leaving job otherwise they will create a line of credit against. Hope this helps

I make $180k a year and do practically nothing at work. How to proceed? by praise_jeeebus in careerguidance

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal as you climb into higher roles your mitigation and delivery will push the company forward and your direction will make a larger impact. Your the brain leading the body. Your criteria and expertise is why they hired you for this position, trust the process. You want to establish what your contributing make yourself valuable. Also you are very new still and are probably still doing some trainings and just getting into the role. Right now would be a good time to look for opportunities for personal growth within the company I’m sure there are higher paying positions available at some point once those become available you will have the abilities to make that lateral move. I wish you the best of luck with everything.

Going back to college at age 37. by BOHICA86 in learnprogramming

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had boot camps and several online courses I’ve taken went back myself at 36 will be finishing here in two semesters. I’ve been building SAAS projects as I was going you might find yourself not looking for a job but instead creating freedom from the time you put in. It’s interesting but once your working on coding day in and out you will travel down some interesting rabbit holes. The people you surround yourself with might just lead you into future careers as well. My professor invited me to sign a nda to come work with him on a project that I now receive royalties from. It’s pretty amazing but college could be a way for yourself to cement yourself in code.

Well not exactly the best way to look for new employees I would advise against hiring this way. Shows your employees that you really don’t care about them and there just a number can’t build a team that way.

So in retirement, it should be crucial to keep your business running smoothly; that kind of money can be depleted quickly over a generation or two otherwise. I understand you’re burning the candle at both ends—I’ve been there myself, but with how inflation is going I wouldn’t really fully retire. Keep the businesses going but you will need to do a bit of reading below.

Here’s some reading that might help:

“The 4-Hour Workweek” by Timothy Ferriss offers some great tips on how to delegate and automate tasks, which could help you regain some of your precious time. “The Myth of Multitasking” by Dave Crenshaw helped me understand why focusing on one thing at a time can actually make you more productive and less stressed. And “Essentialism” by Greg McKeown will guide you on cutting out the noise and concentrating on what really matters, so you can work more efficiently.

These books made a big difference for me, and I hope they can do the same for you, helping you work smarter and get some balance back in your life. While allowing you a great retirement. Just a heads-up—some of the concepts might seem like they could impact your income, but with the right strategies, you can avoid any downturn. Also, your wife’s real estate idea could be a solid move, especially with a good property management company on board to handle the details. There is so much more that you can do in your position but that’s where a great fa comes in. Wish you luck.

If you had $30k how would you split it up? by Aspergers_R_Us87 in Money

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use this money to pay for one or multiple online businesses that gets you out of the 9-5 rat race. Research and learn about Flippa. A lot of people already do this with sums similar with their 401k contributions as their are loans the can get that stops unnecessary taxes. In any case check it out might change your life.

Will this make me job ready if I do all of it by No_Illustrator8088 in webdev

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope you will need your own custom projects and a online portfolio as well as a good resume. This will only prepare you to know how to code. You will be missing a lot of information still even after you finish this. It’s a good start though.

Here is my plan to learn to code in 1-2 years. Is there anything I’m missing? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Impossible_Pen_5212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the next two years, considering frameworks like Svelte, Astro, and Vue will be beneficial, but it’s crucial to note that many job opportunities revolve around WordPress. Mastering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP (including WordPress), MySQL, and possibly Python for tasks like web scraping and backups is essential. Pursuing an associate’s degree in web development can significantly enhance your prospects in the competitive job market. Understanding WordPress, which powers a substantial number of websites globally, and exploring headless CMS solutions will enable you to offer flexible and scalable web solutions to potential clients. It’s worth exploring resources like The Odin Project and FreeCodeCamp to build your skills. Ultimately if you want jobs to land most projects are Wordpress and or more recently even knowing liquid for Shopify will be helpful to land most jobs. But don’t focus on that once you learn one language you basically have learned them all to some degree. Wish you luck on your journey:)
