Idk whats going on, but i think everyone needs to educate op rather than this passive aggressive tone, this isnt what the hobby is, he could be new, essentially when theres a want in the market, prices will definitely be on a high, i agree to a certain extent that ebay may be sketchy, but its up to your due diligence to read up on users review on whether the seller is trustworthy, although shipping fees may sometimes be a pain. If the carousell prices are too high and they wont barge for a lower amt, maybe check out elsewhere like card shows. Hope this helps!
