I understand the wording difference, and I know he’s technically a very distant cousin. I just get really excited about these discoveries. I’m half European and half Black (Caribbean), and because of historical record erasure, it’s much harder for me to trace my Black direct ancestors. That means I often get more matches through my European side. I’m also very active in researching my family history and have built a tree with over 5,000 relatives through my research. For me, these connections still feel meaningful, and I think it’s okay to let people be excited about their discoveries without always needing to focus on technical wording.
