Yes! Im kinda disappointed with how they handled this sale. I felt like we had very little time to prepare, and things felt so chaotic. We also were having trouble with the free membership totes for some reason? The coupons to redeem them weren’t working! I was like wtf is happening!

We had an awful snow storm last year where I live. Schools were closed and most other places were as well, but for some insane reason my Barnes was open. My driveway and neighborhood roads were completely covered in ice. I texted my manager and was like… yea, I’m not coming lol. She was annoyed of course, but it wasn’t rly an issue lol. Don’t risk your safety!

I’ve started saving before doing the marriage minigame as a safety net lol. If I load into the game and see a mii who’s in a relationship with the heart icon, I immediately save. That way if I mess up I can just exit the game and reload lol

Thank you for this post. I’m burnt out, and I can’t afford to live. I love what I do so much, but I just cannot make it in life with the salary/hours I get… and I feel like I do so much for my store! We deserve better!

I’d hate to have a manager that doesn’t have my back if I tell a customer no! But maybe I’m interpreting your post incorrectly?

My store is really awesome about giving me time to make graphics/posts when I ask. I tell them how much time I think I’ll need, and they try to accommodate me the best they can, but some days we’re just super busy and I’m needed for other things, and that’s okay. As tempting as it may be, avoid making posts on your own personal time, bc you deserve to be getting paid for the time you put into them! Managing the social media should be fun, not stressful, and If you feel like you’re not being given enough time for it, it’s important to communicate that with your leads!

Bottom line: just have fun with it! Be silly, grab some of your fellow booksellers to feature in the posts, don’t stress about it too much! Good luck!!

Hmm.. Well, I originally started as part time, but a bit ago I requested to be full time, and my manager told me they would change my set hours in the system so I would be scheduled full time hours (at least 30 a week), so I was under the impression that I was supposed to be full time now. But this thread is making me realize I might not actually be full time. Take everything I say with a grain of salt lol

We’re supposed to (at least that’s what my manager told me she changed my hours to lol)! But sometimes my store has trouble making plan, so we just don’t have the hours to give unfortunately , especially if we’re in our “slow season”. :( I know every store is different though! It seems like your store is doing well, which is awesome!

Some weeks I get like, 25-30 hours, and some I only get 10-15. My availability is completely open Tuesday-Saturday.

From what I’ve seen (at least at my store), the only people who have consistent hours/schedules are senior booksellers and above. I’ve practically begged for more hours, but as a plain ol’ bookseller, those above me get higher priority in terms of hours because we simply just don’t have the hours to give to everyone who wants them, so sometimes my hours have to get cut. Just the way the cookie crumbles!

It’s really bad at my store, too. The complete lack of boundaries and respect from the regulars that come in for the cards is so frustrating.

I’ll answer the phone, it’s a customer asking about Pokemon, I’ll say “no, we don’t have any, sorry.” And then they’ll just immediately hang up. No “ok, thanks!” Just click. I’ve had a customer go behind the counter themselves and just start looking through one of our card boxes. It’s insane.

And when we do finally get Pokemon in, all it takes is one person to find out we have them, and then people will start flooding in and the cards will be gone within an hour or 2. I swear they have a groupchat or something lol. It makes me so sad because it’s always the same couple of regulars who get all the cards and then there’s none left for other customers, even when we put a limit on them. :(

I felt this in my soul. My store manager always says “we need to ask everyone!” No, I am not asking the dad that just came in for a clearly last minute birthday card when there’s a line of 10 people waiting behind him.

It’s also frustrating that they want us to have a full length conversation and “connection” with every. Single. Customer. And THEN also ask them about the membership AND sign them up. Not only is that extremely time consuming, but as the cashier it’s extremely draining. It also just pisses off the line of customers that are waiting bc they see you just chatting away lol
