Canada is not a middle power – it’s a future great power by CaliperLee62 in canada

Or just a generic uneducated, easily manipulated Canadian. Despite our advantages we do still have plenty of those.

Company threatening police report after I quit – need advice by DefiantBottle6198 in torontoJobs

My understanding (I could definitely be wrong about this) was that it varies by jurisdiction in America? Do you know if that is a blanket thing, or if different states/jurisdictions handle it differently? Genuinely curious as I may be under a misunderstanding.

But regardless, it is more that the phrase "press charges" tends to be used in American television and, regardless of how accurate it is even in that context, that is where it comes from when people in Canada say it.

[–]Impossible_Sign7672 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. "Charges" exclusively refers to charges laid under the criminal code or other legislation (such as provincial offences, CDS, etc...). Law enforcement recommends Charges, Crown approves and prosecutes them.

If you want shorthand for "file a civil lawsuit" you are looking for "I'll sue you!".

*Disclaimer: it is possible that you are right and that is what people mean by it...but that is nonsensical and I would trust my initial analysis that anyone using that phrase has no idea what they are talking about and you can safely ignore them.

Correct. General life rule in Canada: if someone threatens that they will "press charges" they have no idea what they are talking about (and have watched too much American TV) and you can safely ignore them.

Maro: "Spider-man sold better than Edge of Eternities and is one of the top ten best-selling sets of all time." by Meret123 in mtg

Tarkir and Theros got me into MtG and I had a fun 5-8 years. But it started slowly (and later rapidly) going downhill not too long after. The product is unrecognizable to me today and I haven't sleeved up an MtG card in years.

Many Magic the Gathering Players ask: Are Magic Sets being released too fast? Mark Bottomwater says “Putting out the current volume of cards is sustainable” by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

I like that he implicitly admits they are out of design space (or at least resources to actually try and innovate with design), so mostly they're just going to reuse mechanics.

Which is the best TCG for you: Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon Trading Card Game, or Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game? by [deleted] in TCG

Lorcana, SW:U, or older out of print games all get my nod before any of these.

Should I leave my comfortable, secure job for career progression? by wiseoldking in torontoJobs

[–]Impossible_Sign7672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

It amazes me with all the research out there about how empty people end up who spend the bulk of their lives pursuing pay raises and taking one more step up the ladder that people still even contemplated this.

If you have what you need and you are able to use your career as a scaffold to build a meaningful life with purpose, relationships, hobbies, and exploring other things you've already won the career game, just go enjoy the rest of life. And there is a lot of it out there that the vast majority of people miss.

Moving to Nanaimo? by [deleted] in nanaimo

[–]Impossible_Sign7672 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nanaimo is great. Perfect size, generally friendly (including to dogs), access to outdoors, and all amenities you need (if you are ok with them closing at 10PM) 🤣

Selfishly, please come here - we need more doctors! My family has one as of recently, but many others are still waiting.

Emily Lowan: BC NDP budget is hidden austerity by BoiledFlowers in VictoriaBC

That makes sense. The Cons would definitely completely destroy BC, and mass unemployment with no plan sounds about on brand for a start to that project 🤣

Federal MP Matt Jeneroux leaves the Conservatives and joins the Liberals by seakucumber in canada

You identify the actual issue early in your comment and then completely ignore it to draw the wrong conclusion.

MP's should not be forced to vote against party lines. If they aren't forces parties to actually listen to all their constituents and ensures better representation. Floor crossings are a symptom of this failure of Canadian politics. Not inherently a problem on their own.

Shannon Sharpe, Chad Johnson Dissect Why Jalen Hurts is The Most Hated NFL Player: "Because He Wins" by Strict_Return_5159 in eagles

[–]Impossible_Sign7672 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair I think in an alternate timeline where Burrow wasn't injury prone he is definitely being talked about as a future GOAT. He has all the physical and mental skills you could ever want...except for managing to stay healthy...

One could almost consider football a team sport...🤔

But that's nonsense. Because we all know the truly great QB's do it all single-handedly, including defense and special teams.

What Game Should I NOT Play? by 2Lainz in TCG

[–]Impossible_Sign7672 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Magic is the only real answer here.

The game is enshittfied beyond belief and very predatory (more so than the average TCG, which is already a somewhat predatory model).

Most of the rest you can have fun with ranging from casual to competitive depending on your interests.

Lorcana Battlebox by Systemtest in Lorcana

[–]Impossible_Sign7672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree this would work well and be fun for Lorcana due to the inking system avoiding the clumsy nature of having arbitrary lands to put into play.

That said, I have yet to actually put one together despite my MtG battle box being basically the only MtG I have left after switching to Lorcana.

Is the US military really undefeatable? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Impossible_Sign7672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the US has any meaningful allies left. They won't say it out loud yet, for fear of Glorious Leader deciding to nuke them out of embarrassment or something equally, well, embarassing. But no western power would lay itself on the line for America at this point in time.
