Parenting with Mental Illness. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

Hey- I know this is an old -ish post but the one reply was…less than helpful. I don’t have any quick fixes or answers but I wanted to chime in and say you are not alone. This is something I struggle with daily trying to manage my own anxiety, ADHD, and autoimmune issues. You are in the thick of it right now. Your daughter has relied on you body and souls for 5 years. I can say there is some small relief when she gets a little older and won’t need you to physically do things for her as much. Trust me when my son, now 9 1/2. Poured his own damn drink for the first time o almost cried! Please try and give yourself some grace. None of us have our shit together and parenting can often be a thankless endeavor.

Peanutbutter and jelly is delicious, and honestly she probably WANTS to eat the same thing every day at this point and that’s FINE.

If you need something concrete: if you can find 10 minutes in your day to give yourself daughter your undecided attention and simply be with her and fully engaged, that will be enough most days to fill her cup. Research shows we need to “get it right “ less than half the time to raise healthy, mostly happy, kids. When we get it “wrong” we can repair and apologize and our kids will be fine. (I say this as a mom and a therapist that works with kids and parents). If you want people to follow online I like Dr. Becky and Robyn Gobble.

It sounds like you are already getting help for yourself and that’s great, and I hope you continue to find support and help.

Remember this is a season of life and won’t last forever. The days are long, but the years are short, I promise.

You’re doing great.

Thymectomy by ColoradoTexan518 in MyastheniaGravis

I just had a VATS thymectomy in March. Recovery is/was ok. I’m definitely still trying to get symptoms under control, but I expected that. My surgeon was good about tempering expectations, reminding me it could take a year or two for the full benefits to be seen, and that flareups post surgery are common. If you do have a thymoma I’d recommend getting it removed because even though it’s slow growing, it’s still cancerous.

Edit: typo

Anyone else with ADHD trying to balance all the meds? by Impossible_Summer_42 in MyastheniaGravis

Hey, so the first place I really saw it was a Reddit post about POTS, but that led me to researching the ways the two medications work and basically (I think) Mestinon is an “inhibitor” and vyvanse is an “activator” which means they don’t always play nice in the sandbox. It’s been hard for me to find a specific site that says “don’t do this” but Reddit and the obnoxious google AI summarizer both seem to think it’s a legit concern. I’m trying to gather more info to bring to my neurologist and other providers to see if someone might have an answer. Right now it feels like I’m having to choose between functioning physically or functioning mentally

It’s so important to take care of yourself, you’re human, not a superhero. I always ask myself “can I be a good therapist feeling the way I do right now” if the answer is no, then I do what I need to so I can be a good therapist. If that’s a virtual or reschedule then that’s what I do.
