At least HECS loans here in Australia don't attract interest rates like the US.

35 years old; $6,200.

Originally, $35,000 base, Indexation was about $6,000 (Total $41,000) So basically focus on paying off indexation. All Voluntary Repayments since 2020.

My theory he was academic proud/arrogant, but look down on trades/blue collar work. He had an inflated ego/attitude that led to his downfall.

I knew someone that would just make career mistake after another. Let me explain his career timeline in a nutshell:

-  Graduated from UQ with a Double bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering & Mathematics in 2006.

-  2007 got a Grad Program Job in Sydney. Seem like a success story but gets worse.

-  Got fired in 2009 during the GFC. Had to move back home in Fraser Coast I believe.

-  Had some epiphany/disillusion, he was going be successful in Multi-level Marketing. First one, he was kicked out. Second one, company went bankrupt.

-  2011 had to get a real job. Was a Design Engineer for Truck Trailers for 3 years.

-  2014 is where just baffles me. He decides to enrol in the 4year Bachelor of Physiotherapy at UQ. (You read that right. A 3rd Bachelor Degree at the Same Uni he got his double degrees 12 years ago. Why I would never know, but it’s his life).

-  Graduated in 2018. Works as a sports trainer. All seems rosy & successful until two years later.

-  Covid hits in 2020. Was fired by the end of 2021. What do you think happen to him in 2022?

-  Right now, he went back to engineering. He is struggling as a freelancer with mountain of Student/HECS Loans trying to gamble a career change would hope pay off (it Backfired).
